Halloween isn't a time of year normally associated with great style, unless you consider zombie Elvises or slutty cheerleaders the height of sartorial sophistication. But the world of the gothic and spooky has made important contributions to the fashionable ideal, from Oscar Wilde's Dorian Gray to Johnny Depp's devilishly dapper turns for Tim Burton. Of course, few figures embody sinister stylishness as effectively as Mr. Vincent Price.

After making his horror debut in the 1939 Boris Karloff flick "Tower of London," the St. Louis-born thespian went on to star in countless fright flicks, including more than half a dozen Edgar Allen Poe adaptations, performing right up until his death in 1993. Conveying menace and a black sense of humor with each suavely raised eyebrow, the perfectly poised Price was a true gentleman of ghoulishness.
