Required viewing from the week in movies.

Set during the '80s, "The House of the Devil" pays tribute to the days of slow-burn, feathered-hair horror. Both a great genre homage and a chilling new horror classic that shows the "Saw" bunch how it's done. Look for creepy actor Tom Noonan ("Manhunter") as the caretaker of the titular house.

Also in theaters:

-- We're legitimately surprised that the Michael Jackson concert movie "This Is It" is getting strong buzz. This thing had "rushed cash-in" written all over it.
-- "Boondock Saints II" should keep the first film's rabid cult happy for a while. We liked the first "Saints" just fine, but some people LOVE it.
-- "Gentlemen Broncos" has very little buzz for an offbeat comedy directed by the "Napoleon Dynamite" guy. But it does star "Flight of the Conchords" member Jemaine Clement as a pompous science-fiction author, which might be enough to get our $11.50.
