Fruit Bats Join Humans in Oral Sex Club

Short nose fruit bats are the first adult non-human animal to be observed regularly engaging in oral sex.

Because of their nocturnal lifestyle, little is known about the mating habits of bats. But Chinese scientists, using night vision cameras, filmed short-nosed fruit bats having sex in a park (pictured here). To their surprise, they found over half of the copulations started with the female bat giving oral sex.

A male bat never pulled away from a sexual encounter that began with oral sex, and the longer the female performed the act, the longer the vaginal sex that followed lasted. This suggests there may be evolutionary benefits, in terms of an increased rate of conception, to oral sex.

Images from the study also suggest disturbing similarities between bat porn and the Paris Hilton sex tape.
