There's a lot to love about ABC's remake of "V," from the re-emergence of everyone's favorite "Firefly" companion (Morena Baccarin) to the amped-up special effects, but the show's political underpinnings seem designed to appeal to a pretty specific crowd. Like its "Beastmaster"-aided predecessor, this "V" also contains heavy doses of political allegory, but in the original, the villains were analogous to the Nazis. Although ABC downplays the connections, in this update, the alien visitors share a lot in common with the Obama administration. Many town hall protesters might ask what the difference is.
Check out the parallels between the new "V" series and a right-wing fever dream, and see an extended preview of the first episode.
1. The aliens come to Earth using Obama-campaign watchwords hope and change, and offer the most literal form of universal health care. Aided by a complicit news media, they assuage rabid protesters through a sweet-talking figurehead. Skeptics try to warn everyone of the impending danger, but nobody listens.
2. Of course, the most striking comparison is that, while many Obama opponents are sure he's concealing an alien birth certificate, the seemingly benevolent V's are pretending to be just like us, but (spoiler alert) are hiding lizardy evidence that they just aren't.
3. The whole thing could have been lifted from the minds of Glenn Beck and Lou Dobbs.
Of course, the flip side to this is the possibility that, in macro, this is actually a satire of the anti-Obama hysteria that's filling Fox News' coffers. Either way, the new "V" is a great way to start a good argument while watching some cool sci-fi action.
UPDATE: The White House reacts to allegations of right-wing agenda in "V."

I'm looking forward to this show, so far it looks pretty promising. Although, I cannot really say what my opinion is on any presumed political allusions in the show without watching a full episode of it. I guess we'll see, eh?

Has anyone seen these media types describe those on the left as "left wing" or leftist? No bias at all!

Interesting how this is taken to be criticism of the Obamanator and the Obamanation he is creating. V was created as an allegory of the insidious rise to power of the National Socialists ( Nazis). It emphasized their deceptively positive promises as well as their hidden evil nature which would be revealed too late in all its horror. So, yeah, socialism being socialism, this looks like a fitting parody of the Obama Elite and its "Change".

This is not the Agenda of our begrudged politicians. The whole show parallels age old conspiracy's.
If these topics are interesting to you pick up a book from David Icke. He will explain all these topics from his perspective and many others that share his views on the the underlying agenda set forth many many years ago.

No it does not. If it does its purely coincidence. It's pretty much the same storyline as the 1983 series. UNLESS SOMEBODY FIGURED OUT THE OBAMA FOREIGNER CONSPIRACY AND FIGURED OUT THAT HE WOULD WIN THE PRESIDENCY IN THE FUTURE AND AND LAMPOONED IT IN THE 1983 SERIES. Wow! Somebody call Fox news. They will eat this up.

I think what the article refers to with regard to the parallels is that the show is using alot of imagery/verbage that is clearly reminicsent of the Obama campaign and admin, i.e., the use of the words hope, change, universal healthcare by the Visitors, the leader of the visitor clearly leading a reporter down the path of do what's good for your career as opposed to stick to your ethics, etc. I lean towards it being a parody of the hysteria from the right, but it's pretty obvious that someone wrote some pretty specific things in this re-make as subtle reminders of Obama.

I totally agree....with a few small changes, it's basically the same story line as the original. I wish people would stop thinking EVERYTHING is politically motivated! If it looks like a story line, and acts like a story line, sometimes it is just a storyline!! Get over it people!!!! Get a life!!!

I agree, also. Having the entire original mini-series (both) and TV show on DVD, this is pretty much just an update to the original. "Hope" and "Change" are common words, and "Universal Health Care" is not a new concept. It's just an interesting Sci-Fi show.
What I find amusing is that some on the left (I'm in the middle, as in moderate) are both at the same time saying it is has a "right-wing" agenda, AND is a parody of the same. It can't be both, so pick ONE, and just let people like me enjoy the show.

Folks... Really...
This article is crap! We are to think that in 1 year, this program was written, casted, filmed and editted to reflect an Obama state of mind? What is this Country coming to...
V is a great show though!

This is one of those shows where you can make it be either a satire or an endorsement of whatever social philosophy you hate, or love, or don't care much about.
That's what makes it such a well-written story. You can hate the V's or feel guilty that you really wanna hang with the V babes (Anna = SchaWIING!) even though you know they are gonna control the world.
You can root for the rebels and the 5th column, and enjoy the eye-candy of the female FBI agent (more ShaWIING!)
You can indulge your secret fanatsy of being a world dictator and pretend to be a V.
You can analyze each person and their motivations and how they may react in the next episode, in true Science Fiction/soap opera fan stle.
The history of the show indicates it was picked up by ABC in May of 09, from the already produced pilot the ABC exectuives watched.

who cares if it has a political agenda!! how many shows out there have a left-wing agenda. i can count them using my hands and feet. Does anyone really care if it has apolitical message? most of us wont even notice it if there is one, we will just notice the fighting and the aliens.

Let me see if I've got this straight.... the left is all agog over the possibility that some right-wing agit-prop might have been worked into a script of the new "V" series.
Hmmm ... the left has "The Daily Show," "The Colbert Report," every documentary HBO has ever aired, MSLSD ... I mean, MSDNC.... I mean, PMSNBC... , the various "Law & Order" series which regularly insert political leftism into their scripts, Bill Moyers and most of his colleagues on PBS, Katie Couric, George Stephanopoulos, Oprah --- and those are just the ones off the top of my head. If I really sat down and thought about it, I'm sure I could come up with many others.
If the writer here is concerned about political bias on TV, it isn't even a close call.
I guess a virtually monopoly on

So we are not allowed to crtitisize the administration??? Guess freedom of speach is dead, unless its politically correct??? The left has been dishing it out for the last 8 years, now when its their turn their little feeling are hurt...too bad. Lots of americans don't like whats going on in Washington with the direction the government is going, and its about time the right wingers woke up and realized that they are not the only ones with a voice. The US is headed so fast into socialism it make my head spin. We better speak up and act while we still can.

First off, Cheri, nobody is trying to get your kids to worship Obama. Stop being so paranoid. As someone who voted for Obama, I must admit I'm a little disappointed in his cowardly slow pace of cleaning up Bush's mess. However, to compare him to Hitler is disgusting and as inaccurate as you can get. We're still much better off then what would've happened if Old Man River and the Smith & Wesson spokesmodel had gotten into office and you damn well know it.
As for the show, I don't really notice any political themes. All I see so far is a fun, intriging(don't know if I spelled that right), intelligent, well-acted, suspenseful, action-packed, and fascinating show. Can't wait to see the rest of it.
