There's a lot to love about ABC's remake of "V," from the re-emergence of everyone's favorite "Firefly" companion (Morena Baccarin) to the amped-up special effects, but the show's political underpinnings seem designed to appeal to a pretty specific crowd. Like its "Beastmaster"-aided predecessor, this "V" also contains heavy doses of political allegory, but in the original, the villains were analogous to the Nazis. Although ABC downplays the connections, in this update, the alien visitors share a lot in common with the Obama administration. Many town hall protesters might ask what the difference is.
Check out the parallels between the new "V" series and a right-wing fever dream, and see an extended preview of the first episode.
1. The aliens come to Earth using Obama-campaign watchwords hope and change, and offer the most literal form of universal health care. Aided by a complicit news media, they assuage rabid protesters through a sweet-talking figurehead. Skeptics try to warn everyone of the impending danger, but nobody listens.
2. Of course, the most striking comparison is that, while many Obama opponents are sure he's concealing an alien birth certificate, the seemingly benevolent V's are pretending to be just like us, but (spoiler alert) are hiding lizardy evidence that they just aren't.
3. The whole thing could have been lifted from the minds of Glenn Beck and Lou Dobbs.
Of course, the flip side to this is the possibility that, in macro, this is actually a satire of the anti-Obama hysteria that's filling Fox News' coffers. Either way, the new "V" is a great way to start a good argument while watching some cool sci-fi action.
UPDATE: The White House reacts to allegations of right-wing agenda in "V."

Remember back to the Twilight Zone episode "To Serve Man" about a race of aliens that came down to earth to be nothing but helpful to the cause of humanity? Once the earthlings became complacent and started traveling to the host's planet, they discovered the alien's gifted book titled "To Serve Man" turned out to be a cookbook! . . . "V" is nothing but the age-old stereotype of what we think of Alien intentions. Nothing new here! However, aren't (most) politicians like Aliens? . . . The current ones' are just "really" good at telling you what you want to hear! The 2000 page Health Care Bill is our "To Serve Man" book . . . Nobody has been able to translate it so far.

Wow! How is your militia doing? You are what makes me believe freedom of speech should not be granted to certain individuals.

I've quit watching SVU because they seem to think we want to hear their political views played out in nighttime TV. Liberal commies - take your SVU and shove it? Didn't I just see the show may not be around much longer? Good.

If it is or it isn't...who cares? What TV show in the past ten years DIDN'T take a shot or two (or a hundred) at Bush, his administration, or just at people who are more conservative in general? PUH-LEEZE!
My advice to those whining about "V"...suck it up and deal. The rest of us have been dealing with YOUR crap for awhile now, on very nearly EVERY bloody TV show out there, and WE are still here. A little dose of your own medicine won't kill you. Repeated doses of most so-called "reality tv" might, though. Your brains will turn to goo and spill out of your head to be lapped up by those bozos who produce them. ;)

Who in the world cares about political underpinnings in science fiction? Who spends time looking for this? Again, I ask who...CARES!? It's fiction! Heaven forbid a television show goes against the glorious regime of The Obama. We've had to put up with satires and criticisms of former President Bush for eight years and not get to say anything. It's our turn. I can complain all I want about the President and there's nothing you can do about it. Isn't that what you said from 2000-2008? Well, I'm saying it now. There is nothing wrong with mirroring the events of the last year and a half. Stop complaining. YOU WON! GET OVER YOURSELVES. Your man is in the White House and your still whining! Give me a break.

Well, Obama only wants the public to ONLY see him in the upmost postive way just like the V. The V manipulates the media to print only postive things about them and I'm hard pressed to see how Obama isn't any different. After all he refuses to make public certain parts of his education and past. I suppose he has something to hind just like the V do. I can see how the comparisons could be seen between Obama and the V.

Everyone knows that the networks are all in the bag for the Republicans, right? Give me a break. Obama's agenda would make more sense if he was from another planet. He does have Spock's ears come to think of it!

What I find compelling is, is that the V's are JUST as convincing to MANY people (in the show) as Obama's campaign was. And their agenda is the same!!!!!!!
If NOTHING else, this is JUST another wake up call to ALL of you that fell for the BS.
As a republican, I was P/O'd at GB in the last 2-3 year's that he was in office. I do believe that they had a draw on the oil profit's at the time, however, now I see that the Gov't is STILL accepting these Oil Speculator's opinion's. Therefore, I believe that the Gov't is getting kickback's from the oil profit's, NOT certain individual's. Especially when EVERY analyst on TV make's the statement that everything point's to the fact that price's should be falling, NOT increasing.
Plus, overall, I believe that GB had the countries good at heart. However, I believe that Obama ONLY has his agenda at heart, he does not care about the average (white america) american.
He want's to be seem as the savior and SO FAR is is seen as the SINKER. He has sunk us, he has sunk our kid's, he has sunk our grandkid's and he has sunk our grandkid's kid's into a debt that we may NEVER recover from.
Any IDIOT know's that you do not fix money problem's with money, especially borrowed money.

Funny, no one mentioned "David Icke" here, lol. I think the original "V" series may have inspired his "reptilian alien" conspiracy theories.
Debating the show's political slant is going to be a waste of time, people on both sides will project whatever they want to onto it.

man only the heavy left could come up with that idea. comparing an invading alien race to obamas administration in a right wing conspieracy remake is reaching pretty far. and every body knows that TV and media is a icredibally liberal or straight commies...no in between haha. ive seen the original "V" and true the invaders tend to have Nazi idealisms, it more goes to show how Obama is more like a Nazi...yeah no body made that connection huh?

This topic is a little off center considering "V" is a remake from a 1983 mini-series turned into a weekly series in 1984. Now I am not a fan of President Obama's; however, he is still the President and even if you don't respect the man the Office he hold still deserves respect. Could someone spin some similarities between "V" and the Obama Administration ... maybe yes ... The best fix to our current problem will be fix at the next election. We must stand strong and force our representative to act in our best interest. "United We Stand, Divided We Fall" ~ Aesop (620 BC - 560 BC)

I am continually amazed at how the Obama administration and its supporters believe that it is the first one in history that should not be satirized or even criticized. [Especially ironic because it has created so much to satirize in such a short period of time.] Unfortunately the Constitution does not make a provision limiting freedom of speech only to criticism of the Bush administration. As we're on science fiction, I think its good to recall the famous words of Princess Laih to Darth Vader: "The more you tighten your grip, the more ... will slip through your fingers!" If Obama's folks try to kill this one, they'll just get ten in its place -- the Obama administration really just keeps on writing more and more scripts for these type of things.

This is looking A LOT like the original "V" from several years ago. I just can't get into it this time around. And no I don't see any political agenda in it at all...you all are just looking for something that isn't there.

This show has nothing to do with the current state of affairs as I remember when it ran the first time years ago. They were lizards dressed as beautiful, intelligence human like figures then also. They came to earth to destroy the population and take over, they had to eat live food to survive. I remember this one scene where the beautiful dark haired beauty who had seduced the American, a steamy sex scene, then returned to the mother ship, stuck her hand in a glass cage, took out a rat and SWALLOWDED IT WHOLE! Guts, Feathers, Hair, tail and all!
Talk about a similiar situation to what is going on in Washington Today! But, I don't know what FOX NEWs has to do with it!

Whatever the shows political bias is, Tommy Christopher has a
decided left wing bias. The liberals can dish it out but seem
to have very thin skins.
