This is the kind of video that at first seems like a triumph of nature, as a young deer leaps into a lion enclosure at the D.C. National Zoo and gets mauled by a pair of lions for a while before finally breaking free and running to safety. The crowds cheer and everyone is excited and it is kind of heartwarming. Sadly, as was later reported, once zoo officials had a chance to get to the animal it became apparent that it had been injured so severely nothing could be done to save it. The deer was euthanized, but this video remains as the unbelievable preface to an unhappy ending.
