While taking steroids and shooting HGH is considered cheating around these parts, Asylum still counts the no-hitter that Pittsburgh Pirate Dock Ellis pitched in 1970 while on LSD as one of the greatest achievements in sports history.Perhaps only those who've been immersed themselves in the topsy-turvy world of an acid trip know how insane doing even simple things is under the influence. Making a phone call, let alone walking past a mirror, can prove nearly impossible. So the idea of not only participating in an MLB game, but also completing one of the most difficult tasks a player can accomplish is mind-blowing.
No Mas and artist James Bladgen recently commemorated Ellis's no-hitter with an animated retelling that captures the extraordinarily amazing (and euphoric) achievement.

Did this actually happen? I've taken acid on a few occasions (okay, quite a few) and the idea that this man could have pitched a no-hitter while tripping absolutely blows me away. That he was able to pitch AT ALL is an amazing feat. Acid would have given him absolutely no edge in the game whatsoever, in fact I would consider that an extreme handicap. Also, tripping on acid is nothing like the little cartoon featured on this page. You don't see things that arent there it's just that your perception of the things that ARE there is different. That doesn't change the fact that what this man accomplished is downright inconceivable. He deserves a statue in his honor.
