"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is unique among current shows in that it doesn't include a single sympathetic character in its main cast. Even such dedicated odes to pettiness and self-delusion as "The Office" include someone, like Jim, for us to root for. Not so, FX's cult hit. Charlie, Mac, Dennis, Sweet Dee and Frank are five of the most gleefully vain, misanthropic and despicable humans on television. And we love 'em.
If we had to pick a favorite from this hilariously bad bunch, we'd go for Charlie. His depravity seems a little less scheming and more, well, the product of some deep-rooted mental issues. Also, we dig his super-scruffy vintage T-shirt style. In real life, actor/writer Charlie Day favors a more sophisticated take on classic casual wear than his on-screen alter ego. (We're gonna assume he also doesn't snort paint or dress up as "Green Man" at sporting events.)
To celebrate the DVD release of the "Always Sunny" holiday special, "A Very Sunny Christmas," here's our guide to dressing like Mr. Day.
Ben Sherman Wynn Sweater in Almond Marl
If you're looking for a suave, casual, well-cut sweater, you can't go wrong with one of Ben Sherman's mod-inspired tops. ($79 from BenShermanUSA.com)
Pro-Keds Men's Champion Chukka Boot
A pair of these fashionable (but relaxed) kicks -- rather than, say, sneakers -- will help elevate your outfit from casual to something a little more elegant without losing the overall laid-back feel. ($70 from Endless.com)
Rugby Vintage Slim Jean
Day's super-dark-wash jeans contrast nicely with his light, autumnal sweater. ($98 from Rugby.com)
Howe Literary Scene Long Sleeve Woven in White
Howe menswear's promotional blurb invites us to call this creation "cowboy punk meets English gentleman." Thanks, but we think we'll stick with "a pretty smart white shirt." ($110 from RevolveClothing.com)
