It was simply a case of the right bulbs going out at the wrong time. But passers-by couldn't be blamed for thinking a smirking prankster, or something much darker, was responsible when they looked up at the neon sign for Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, N.Y., which then displayed the ominous phrase "I'm hurt."
When The New York Times
showed Elmhurst spokesman Dario Centorcelli a photo of what a missing E and S had wrought, he seemed surprised. "Oh, God, are we going to get this fixed?" he wondered.
We can only hope the hospital stays more on top of the situation when patients come in hurt and in need of fixing.

Even if it is photo shopped, which I don't think it is, that is just to funny for words!! It's really cute and I think they should leave it that way!!

Does anyone here knows how to spell? First of all the name is ELMHURST. If the second letter is an L..why are all of you making it sound like an I? Don't see how stupid that is? If it were an I then it should be EIMHURST..RIGHT? Then it would make sense to say.."IM HURT" You are all so wrong!!!!!!!! "LM HURT"? GEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

This reminds me of a time, a few years ago, when i was driving on a freeway and saw a sign from a restaurant with one letter bulb that went out. The restaurant was called "Black Angus". Can you guess which letter? HAHAA. I was LMAO. And the next day it was already fixed.

I think it is Perfect! What better sign for an emergency facility. Whoever thought it up should get a real pat on the back!

My company installed those signs four years ago. They are illuminated by eight foot flourescent tubes that run lenghtways. It's impossible for a tube to go bad without darkening the rest of the sign. So, yes, it's been photoshopped.

The biggest complaint I have about AOL is their lack of control on comment boards. They have a screener for forums that will screen out a username. If AOL would implement that feature for comments, then we could pass around a list of names to be blocked and implement the feature ourselves! BTW, the usernames for the spam makes me think actual people are involved.

i live in the neighborhood and i remember taking the picture of the sign weeks ago as i passed by the hospital. i thought it was so funny i needed to get a shot of it. what a coincidence that their L is a lowercase l and looks like an I. Too funny. I'm glad it was caught by others and made news.

The article actually contains this gem: "passers-by couldn't be blamed for thinking a smirking prankster, or something much darker, was responsible..."
Oh, PLEASE!!!!!!! As the songs says: Paranoia may destroy ya. I live near the hospital. Just this past Feb. I went there to see my best friend's mom. I laughed when I got there, as there is actually a McDonald's in the hospital proper, just past the front doors, veering to the right. I figure the administrators thought they might get lucky w/some new patient heart attacks resulting from the food. Anyway, luckily my friend's mom is fine now. Thanks for reading.
