Would You Put Your Pitbull in a Vick Jersey?

Photographer Jim Kiernan of No Pants Subway Ride and NYC BurlesqueFest 2009 was shooting a street artist in Bushwick last week and on the way home came across "this dude with a gnarly pit bull in the ghetto" -- this is the dog -- and he's wearing a Michael Vick Atlanta Falcons #7 jersey. Personally, we think a Vick chew toy would have been a bit more appropriate, don't you?

A great parody. The spiked coller says it all. There is no way this could be construed as in support of Vick's actions or of those of his type. It sort of makes one shudder.

Hey Sue.... if you don't want to put clothes on your dog, so be it; but if others, such as myself do, then that is our business. My two Yorkies love to wear clothes and everyone seems to enjoy seeing them and they go to several animal friendly stores. I think that the makers of dog clothes would go belly up if everyone felt like you and they sure aren't, are they. So keep your "stupid" opinions to yourself and let others "live and let live".

I think it is stupid and the collar the dog is wearing is also stupid, and the owner must have poor "man ethics" and uses his dog to show how macho he is. Most men seem to think that their dog is an "extension" of their manliness, I think that most guys that do that are ones with low self worth. Get a life man and don't make the dog try to make up for what you don't have. Dog coats and shirts and clothes are dumb also, only sweaters when it is cold is rational. I use sweaters on my dogs in the winters, they are not people and do not need "clothes" .

I don't approve of dogfighting, but Vick apologized, give the man a break. I don't watch sports because the competitors are stellar people, I watch because they're good. I have a dog myself, and if Michael Vick moved in next door, I'd greet him the same way I do all my neighbors:with a smile.
Everybody makes mistakes, and we can't hold this against someone who's paid their debt to society. Lets not take the mans livelihood away. And Sue, what do you have against men?

Honestly, poor "man ethics"? Many men have dogs just like women do. What is the difference? Why is it that a female can do something and a man cannot without being judged? So are your dogs a way of trying to make up for your poor "women ethic"? What's the difference. Also, why are clothes stupid? Why is it ok for you to put a coat on your dog in the winter other clothes throughout the year? I hope you realize how hypocritical you sound. If you want to take the point of view that it is stupid to dress your dog then at least completely take that view. There are many dogs who don't have coats in the winter, so why does your dog need one? Ever think of that?

Anyway, I don't see a problem with dressing your pets. Although, i do find it quite ironic that they put a Michael Vick jersey on a pitbull seeing as he has gotten introuble for fighting them, etc. but if that is there choice so be it. Why does it matter to us? That is there decision. Do you want everyone saying something because you put some random outfit on your dog? OMG - YOU PUT A PURPLE SWEATER ON YOUR POODLE?! What is the difference? I don't get what the big deal is.

I do believe Vick should have gotten into a lot more trouble than he did but that is not my choice to make. I think animal cruelty is just as bad as being cruel to a human. If not worse, at least humans can fight back and have a better chance of getting away. An animal doesn't have much choice but to take it. We out power them. I think laws should be more strict and people should get much worse punishment for animal cruelty.

there is not one reason any animal the has evolved over the thousands to millions of years needs ANY form of clothing,regardless of weather.yes,one might argue dogs are literally manmade (a large percentage of dog breeds seen now,NEVER existed as little as 100 years ago),but the dna is still there.

Sue, if you think dog clothes are stupid, then you will really think I am stupid. My husband bought me what he thought was a toe ring. Real gold, with real diamonds. As it turned out it was a ring for a little girl. I give him an A for effort. He told me to give it to a special little girl, and he would buy me another one.

Well, I gave it to my special girl. I bought a claw clasp and put it on her collar. She knows her collar belongs to her, and knows when we add her new tag that she has something new on it. She has proudly sported her diamond ring around for days now. She also loves her lime green coat. She is a cattle dog. She is 12, has arthritis and it keeps her warm when she goes out.

Besides, it's my money, and I can spend it the way I want to. Along with a few pampered gifts for her, I do a lot for Charity.

Pitbulls are not phallic extensions. They are gentle, loving and fun dogs. I have 2. They love people, kids and other dogs. They are also very intelligent. I am a male and would never put my dogs in jeopardy.
