Health-care reform might have become just another political ploy to earn votes come Election Day up on Capitol Hill -- but it's causing some parents to resort to Middle Ages-style medicine that even Theodoric of York wouldn't prescribe. We don't know if the lack of adequate dental care in the country forced these two parents to pull their child's loose tooth out the "Radio Shack way" -- tying one end of a string around the tooth and another to the end of a remote-controlled car and sending it barreling toward a makeshift ramp at Mach 2 -- but we're pretty sure Child Protective Services might be able to recommend a more suitable dental professional.

"...sure Child Protective Services might be able to recommend a more suitable dental professional." I hope that was sarcasm aimed at an unconstitutional American legal system that deprives many parents improperly of their right to the relationships wiht their children. If not, what an asinine comment. This was an intelligent and fun way for their child to deal with their wiggly tooth. No abuse or anything else that your article hints at. If it was meant to be funny, I am sure some of America's finest citizens don't find it as such. I sure as hell didn't. Hey, an dunce caps for all of you too. Your article isn't half as creative as their concept was.

no joke, and neways, it's not like she was hurt//it might cause some nerve damage tho, so they might wanna research that better next time, but the lil girl was obviously okay, and didn't appear afraid of the adults, so she's not abused.

There is nothing wrong with getting creative to help your kid relax in a stressfull situation. Americas Funniest Home Videos did a whole setion on creative ways of pulling teeth not to long ago. These incuded alot worse than an RC car and it was aired on nation TV for entertainment. Get over it.

My mom used to tie a string around our tooth and the other end to a door knob. Then she'd slam the door. This is how it was done in the old days. These parents did nothing wrong.

Yeah and it's a lot better than having your kids mouth start bleeding like hell while they're at school....not to mention how distracted they get when they're sitting there wiggling the damn thing.

i agree 100%.. i jsut emailed this article to my sister reminding her of our days when we were that age and having our teeth pulled out with strings around door knobs(im 29, shes 30 now). i think its ludicrous that they even brought up child protective services.. GET A GRIP ALREADY! geez! lol

I totally agree. The author is not very bright, and obviously has no children. It's really sad when you're clueless and you just have to post something for the sake of it. These parents are great. There is no evidence whatsoever that they are 'white trash', whatever such derogatory term may mean to you. They are intelligent people, have a nice clean house, and a happy and smart and obviously well cared for daughter.

Man this is hilarious. I remember that when I was a kid, door shutting was the norm. This is very creative and fun. I give the parent kudos for the idea.

Lol. My Dad used to pull my loose teeth out with pliers. I never understood why someone would need to go the dentist to get a loose tooth pulled out! Just get creative!

My dad used pliers as well. (after properly disinfecting them) Why would anyone take a child to the dentist to remove a loose baby tooth? These AOL writers are so weird. They try to make a regular stories seem controversial. How could anyone even infer that this is child abuse? Crazy AOL.

Again with child protective services... go help a kid who really needs it. Get off you fat cheetos eating ass and take care of a kid who is actually being abused instead of messing with caring creative parents.

Chill out Mike! My parents tied a string to my loose teeth and tied the other end to a door knob. Then they slammed the door. I never tried it on my kids but I was not abused. It worked and I didn't swallow the tooth in my sleep which could have caused me to choke to death.

Relax Mike, as a school nurse I see all kind of abuse, pulling a tooth is no child abuse, if the parents did that way and worked whats the big deal? Did you ever stop think that parents dont have money for the dentist all the time when a child need food, clothes etc... RELAX is not child abuse. They did not smacked the tooth out, they pulled out.....creative way.

A string from the loose tooth to the door knob of an open door also works. Then you slam the door. Works very well and screw the social workers.
