Health-care reform might have become just another political ploy to earn votes come Election Day up on Capitol Hill -- but it's causing some parents to resort to Middle Ages-style medicine that even Theodoric of York wouldn't prescribe. We don't know if the lack of adequate dental care in the country forced these two parents to pull their child's loose tooth out the "Radio Shack way" -- tying one end of a string around the tooth and another to the end of a remote-controlled car and sending it barreling toward a makeshift ramp at Mach 2 -- but we're pretty sure Child Protective Services might be able to recommend a more suitable dental professional.

my pops used to put my tooth at the end of the door and slam it shut, that was torture well not realy, but this seem to make it fun for the little girl so it took her mind off of the whole ordeal. big ups to the parents. for making it fun and creative

I agree with the other comments - this is NOT child abuse, it was a creative and fun way to get that really loose tooth out. You can't even look at your children cross-eyed these days without someone screaming child abuse - it is freaking ridiculous.
Hey Danny - you could have written this as a fun human interest story, but instead, you tried to sensationalize it and call these parents out as abusers. Also, what happened to journalists reporting "facts" without adding their conjecture? Clearly, your views are not popular with your readers. You may want to carefully think about how you write your next story. People are getting tired of this crap.

It's a damned if you do and damned it you don't situation. If they wouldn't have pulled the tooth out, someone else would be screaming THAT was child abuse. For goodness sake, people, it's a tooth!! Don't we have better things to worry about??? What is going on in this country?

OMG!those parents should be thrown in jail and they should throw away the key!! what low-lifes.. How could they scar this child forever? GIVE ME A FREAKIN BREAK! DID THEY WATCH THE VIDEO? my goodness. this child had now problem with it. And had this little girl cried and screamed and said I don't want to do this. The parents appeared like they wouldn't do that to their child. How could this article even say this is what we're going to resort to instead of taking are children to a dentist to pull a "BABY TOOTH".... I never took my kids and I never went as a kid either.I would think a parent as being a neurotic parent if they took their child to have their tooth pulled. Unless there really was a problem. please stop trying to turn in good fun loving parents.

Those parents just created a wonderful memory for their child. She was so excited about losing her tooth and the parents did a great job of making it a pleasant and fun experience for the whole family. What an embarrassment to AOL to post this article in negative light. Perhaps they should do one of their polls to ask viewers what was the most unusual or creative way they lost their tooth. Maybe if they did some research before they posted articles like this, they wouldn't be making any reference to CPS for family guidance of proper dental care.
When I was growing up, my parents would tie a string around our tooth and let us jump off the couch. It was fun and a positive experience for us.

This was NOT child abuse. Remember the old way: tie one end around your tooth and the other around a doorknob ?? This is the same, only more creative. And it was fun for the kid. This did not hurt her. But, people can't have any fun anymore without someone screaming ABUSE or NEGLECT. This country is really, really, sad the way it has gotten worse in the past 25 years.

i absolutely agree with you!a friend of mine got accused of abuse because he let his son operate a ride on mower without safety glasses or ear protectors! this country just sucks now. as far as teeth go.... i got the string tied to my tooth and another tied to a cinder block. dropped out the second story window. great fun!

it doesnt matter how well the child is or how clean or dirty the house is its the fact that other ppl dont like you or what you do it only hurts the child and the really bad ppl get away with it it DHS wants to take that kid or any other kid there aint nothing you can say or do to keep it from happening DHS says the child is negelected and thats it the kid is gone its ppl like this that get so many kids in the system where they get abused and melasted when at home the only thing wrong was the house wasnt spotless or the cat litter hadnt been cleaned it doesnt matter what if they want to take a kid for a pulled tooth or a scrach or bump or bruse they can do it and when that happens you mostly wont get that child back with much trauma to that child

why do they need to bring up child protective services? its a loose tooth, the kid doesnt need a root canal for it. my parents used to tie strings, hold me down, and pull. why put out money for a dentist when you can take care of it at HOME . and have you ever tried to get a dental appointment? unless its a dire emergency you have to wait like a month

not abuse
this country has better things to do with their tax dollars
they'll probably launch an investigation and take these people to court over this...those people who waste money like this over crap like this should die in their sleep while our homeless are starving and dying sleeping outside suffering from health related problems, this isn;t the only case there are billions of dollars wasted each day on garbage ass claims trials and other stuff we dont need

Why some people thinking about this are child abuse? My opinion, it's not abuse... You don't know what is "CHILD ABUSE." You should see this pictures or shown the abuse before.. Like Bruises, black eyes, cuts, scars, or whatever.. But pull the tooth for stand of CHILD ABUSE? No! Remember, you were a little and your parents did make do fun in a creative to pull tooth, like from door slam, dog ran off, remote car, and others part.

WHY YOUTH PROTECTIVE SERVICES? i SEE TWOLOVING PARENTS WHO ARE TRYING TO MAKE THIS MUCH LESS SCARY FOR THE LITTLE GIRL AND OBVIOUSLY IT WORKED REAL WELL AND NO TEARS OR PAIN. MY PARENTS ALSO PULLED MY FIRST LITTLE TEETH WITH A LITTLE STRING. BY THE TIMES THEY PULLED IT THE TOOTH WAS PRACTICALLY HANGING ON A THREAT AND THE DANGER WAS THERE THAT I COULD SWALLOW IT. THIS IS NO FORM OF MISTREATMENT SO FORGET CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES. THEY HAVE MUCH MUCH MORE SERIOUS THINGS TO INVESTIGATE.FURTHER MORE THESE LITTLE TEETH DONOT HAVE A ROOT SO CALM DOWN OUT THERE.

Not for nothing, but I see nothing wrong with this, the parents got creative instead of using the string and the old door knob trick. Nothing needs to be done about this, that child enjoyed every bit of it. Some people just need to get a life and maybe start worrying about children being abused really by their parents.

To all the people who say this isn't abuse think about this: what if the parents had taken it upon themselves to perform their little boy's bris ceremony at home in a similar fashion and tied the poor lad to the truck by his foreskin? Would you call that abuse? Today's children have no manners, but they probably would if the alternative were circumcision by truck. I wail and quaver for our great land if the government starts to deny parents the basic right to assault their children with their own toys. The trust of a child is an amazing thing and if parents can creatively exploit it to make child-rearing easier, well more power to them, I say.
