So, an obese passenger boarded an American Airlines flight without buying a second seat, so a flight attendant took a photo of him and stuck it on the Internet. Sure, the real loser is the guy sitting next to him, but we're not sure who's the bigger jerk -- the frugal passenger or the insensitive stewardess.
On the one hand, this guy kind of paid the price for not getting a second seat by having to sit for untold hours with an armrest rammed up his ample nether-regions, so Internet shaming really isn't called for.
On the other hand, what if there were a need for an emergency evacuation? Zones 3 and 4 would be totally effed.
It's a tough call, but we're thinking the stewardess is the bigger a-hole this time. Who knows what the guy's story was, and we're betting this trip wasn't exactly a pleasure cruise for him either.

I agree completely. First of all, I doubt it was a flight attendant who took this, it was most likely the poor bastards who had to sit behind him. If someone chooses (yes, I say "chooses") to be obese, I have no problem with it, everyone has different priorities and I respect that. However, putting everyone around him in potential danger and generally making a (possibly very long) flight unbearable for the people around him who paid the exact same damn price is not right by any perspective.
tl;dr... Take responsibility for yourself. If you are too busy/lazy/poor/indifferent to control your weight, fine, but there's no need to make other peoples' lives miserable because of your choice.

I think it was wrong for the flight attendant to take a pic of this and post it in on the internet. But at the same time the airline should have made him buy 2 seats when he checked in for the flight. It's the person at the check in counter fault that they didn't make him buy 2 seats.

The stewardess did not do anything wrong, in fact, he/she is in the right for taking that photo. I believe not too long ago, two obese people were sueing the airlines for maiking them purchase two seats each. This is sheer proof that they comprimise passangers safety and also very rude in many sense. Hats off to the stewardess.

I think she had every right to, like another commenter said, no one knows who this is, unless he comes out and brings the attention to himself. This is ridiculous, and MOST obese people do NOT have a disease. A small portion? Yes, but NOT the majority. Addiction is categorized as a disease but that doesn't make it okay for heroin addicts to use heroin or endanger others. (Before anyone jumps on me, I am a recovering drug addict, been clean 2 years)
Another thing I thought was hilarious- when I voted 33% of people said the stewardess was in the wrong, and 66% of people said the fat guy was wrong. Odd how about 33% of our population is obese... lol (and another 30% overweight. There are more obese people than people of a healthy weight. Our country is a bunch of fatasses and I hate it!)
