Isn't it great when doctors have some good news, like when they adopt an Arnold Schwarzenegger voice and scream, "IT'S NOT A TUMOR!" at you, or tell you that the things you love are actually good for you? Things like coffee and, more importantly, beer.At the American Association for Cancer Research Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research Conference, a link was revealed between drinking coffee and a reduced risk of advanced, or aggressive, prostate cancer, thanks to its effects on insulin, glucose metabolism and sex-hormone levels.
Also revealed at the AACRFCPRC (good grief, that's a lot of letters) was some incredibly pleasant news: Hops, that magical ingredient that makes an IPA so delicious, may prevent prostate cancer. The compound xanthohumol, which is found in hops, blocks the effects of testosterone on cancer cells that are dependent on the hormone for their growth.
In other words, a few beers at night and a cup of coffee in the morning to stave off the hangover can keep your prostate healthy. Or you could just eff it all and pound a couple delicious Dogfish Head Chicory Stouts -- with hops and organic Mexican coffee, it's like Sam Calagione had your man parts in mind when he was making it.
