Some things in the world are irresistible to a child. Wet cement demands to be stepped in or written on. Markers need to be used on walls and human flesh. And in the presence of a camera you must do something obscene, like this little basketball fan who throws up the bird for ESPN's viewers. At a Villanova basketball game, with ESPN's cameras taking a momentary break to scan the audience, our commentators opt to focus on some children with ice cream and reflect on what it means to be kids enjoying themselves during the holidays.
And then one of the mischievous little pixies flips them right off. The best part is the dad notices and seems to have no idea what to do. Click through to see the video.

Let's see...Villanova game, that's in Philly. Yep, this well-mannered youngster's a future Eagles fan for sure.

Yup, Villanova is in suburban Philly. This kid would have been quite at home in the 700 Level at old Veterans Stadium, and that's coming from a die-hard Phillies "phan". Philadelphians are passionate and knowledgeable sports fans, and that's why the late, great Hall of Fame voice of the Phillies, Harry Kalas (1936-2009) so openly adored us.

You are soooooo right! Remember when the Eagles fans threw snowballs at Santa Claus during a game? Probably 35 years ago, and it pretty much says it all...

Ian Fortey, and any of the rest of you unobserving fools should watch the video again. Even in the still photo, it is obvious that the little boy has two fingers up trying to flash the peace sign and he has food in his hand so one finger is up and the other finger is up as much as he can get it up with food in his hand. The little boy's first reaction to the camera is a big smile and a wave at the camera, do you really think that his genuine reaction then switched to throwing the bird? If I were his Dad, I would sue for defamation. Shame on Ian Fortey.

When you realize that the happy smiling child who first waves at the camera is just flashing the peace sign but has food in his hand, you will eat your words. Look at the video again and try paying attention. Even in the still photo, you can clearly see his second finger up .

Nice job, You can clearly see the kid is giving the "V" sign for the Villanova team and you go and say it's the 'bird"...Why because it's Philly....Unbelievable, You clearly are searching for some "shock" readers with this one. Try to write a real article, maybe that will get you some readers. Start off with an apology to this boy and anyone who read your article.

Just another over the top sports fan in the making. It is growing more and more common. It's a game folks, it's entertainment, the sun will come out tomorrow if your team loses. Other fans look at you with distain.

The dad knew what to do. He shut the kid down. It was seconds...I noticed the camera guy kept it clear, and didnot seam to change focus.....

Why say the "dad didn't know what to do?" The dad can be seen pushing the boy's hand down.. What ELSE could he have done at the time?

It's obvious that he's making the "V" sign for Villanova, you morons. And there's always the one nitwit who drags out the old "They threw snowballs at Santa!" crapola. The truth is, he was a bad Santa. He had lost half his costume and was drunker than a nine-eyed chimpanzee. He deserved to have stuff thrown at him. Philly sports fans are the most passionate in the country so when you don't perform well, you're gonna hear about it from them.

It is a PEACE sign!!!!!! Look at the food (NACHOS always GOOD) in his hand, he make the sign FIRST then his hand is twisted slightly you can STILL see the peace sign just sideways then jacks him up alittle nothing major.

It actually looks like he's trying to throw a peace sign, but his index finger is busy holding his food...

Dad knew exactly what to do. He gave son a rough nudge and verbal correction.
Very appropriate response in my opinion as anything harsher would have been fodder for the "I'll call the cops because you corrected your child in public" crowd.

Yeah that's what I think too.

Some people are so retarded. The boy was obviously trying to make a piece sign but struggled holding his snack.

Take off the rose-colored glasses Bob because they are obviously impacting your vision. This rude child knew exactly what he was doing and dad acted appropriately. If it wasn't such an expensive outing I would have yanked the child out of the stands and called mom to come pick him up.

I agree Bob. I think that is what he was trying to do.
