There are those among us who feel that no good can come from drum circles -- you'll look like an idiot and all your neighbors will hate you. Oh, and you can get anthrax. The unnamed victim went to a drumming circle at the United Campus Ministry near the University of New Hampshire, and experts are saying that while dancing there she must have inhaled thousands of anthrax spores from the African drums being used.
According to the New York Times, officials think that the spores were probably "aerosolized" when a bunch of hippies started beating on the animal skin heads of their drums.
Now that drum circles have been taken care of, we're hoping white dudes with dreadlocks are next on God's list of things to smite.

White guys with dreadlocks are the biggest turn-off. Men that wear their hair like that look like they would have an unpleasant aroma surrounding them. I myself would not get close enough to them to find out. Gross!!!!!

I don't know why exactly, but things like "drum circles" and other slightly silly "spiritual" things seem pretentious to me.

Wow! you can tell this article was written by an unenlightened individual. we get it you think drum circles are for hippies. so you are clueless. most alternative religions/spirtualities have drum circles they are a way to express yourself & not all of us would be considered hippies if you met us in the outside world. My question is this if the anthrax was on the drum why did only the dancer get anthrax? the drummer is right on top of the drum (hello he or she is playing it) you would think if it was the drums there would be an epidemic & those playing the african drums would be sick too. not to mention anyone else around the drum. but only one person seems to have contracted anthrax. HMMMMMM.

I went to my doctors office for a routine physical and was surrounded by very ill people in the waiting room. One week later I have the flu. Where is all your ridiculous hate "reporting" on doctors' offices and the "scum" that frequent them?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HMMMMM. YOU were in a doctor's office and a doctor's office is frequented by scum. Therefore YOU are scum. If you caught a flu from your doctor's office then you failed to wash your hands properly. Things in a doctor's office can spread communicable diseases like the flu. One of them is the pen you use to sign in and other things are the magazines, door handles, clip boards. SO if you contacted any of those items and did not wash your hands afterward and touched your eyes, nose or mouth then you were at fault for catching the flu. Next time carry a hand sanitizer with you.

I really don't understand the reason for such contempt and hostility in this article. And how do you know these are "a bunch of hippies"? Obviously you don't know anything about drum circles or the people involved in this one. Anthrax is a dangerous toxin and should be taken seriously, not treated like a joke.

I've noticed that the level of 'journalism' on these websites just keeps dropping to new lows of idiocy.

Ignorance may be bliss but it is pitiful...Drum circles are the greatest, the problem would be where the drums came from, and please get over the hippie thing, we are in the 21st century and college folk and old hippies go together to drum circles now!!

Give me a break. I am an old "hippie", am a native American, and have drummed just about all my life. Drum kits, hand drums, natural heads, man made heads, ethnic drums, I love them all. Been drumming for nearley 50 years now. No deadly diseases here.....Kenny

Live life to the fullest. Have fun! But how about this one. The origin of the anthrax found in the 2001 anthrax assaults is still a puzzle to scientists and investigators. The anthrax spores used in the attacks are comparable to a strain grown in the laboratory of Bruce Ivins but not totally identical. Investigators will never ultimately know if Ivins was the sole culprit, as he committed suicide before he might be brought in. People have taken out huge sums of money in payday loans to finance finding where this strand was created with no luck.
