A new book theorizes that Warren Beatty has slept with 12,775 women in his life. Beatty's camp emphatically denies it -- a classic case of he said, he said.

But we'll settle the argument. Sorry, Peter Biskind, author of "Star: How Warren Beatty Seduced America" -- your numbers just don't add up. We're siding with Beatty on this one.

Read on to see our rudimentary mathematical proof.

In the biography, which will be published on Jan. 11, Biskind writes that Beatty claims to have lost his virginity when he was around 20. The actor and confirmed ladies' man -- who has bedded Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton and Madonna -- is 72 now. That equates to roughly 52 years of potential reproductive shenanigans.

But it also stands to reason that Beatty has been monogamous, or mostly so, with Annette Bening, the Oscar-nominated actress with whom he's had four children since their wedding in 1992. Take away 17 years for that relationship, and that leaves just 35 years of full-blown singlehood for Beatty. And that's not even factoring in his previous long-term relationships with actresses Natalie Wood and Julie Christie.

Now, take those estimated 12,775 women and divide the figure by 35. The result is 365 women per year, which means that Beatty would have had to sleep with a different woman every single day for 35 straight years to make the math work. So unless he was having threesomes, foursomes and tensomes at a more enviable rate than Wilt Chamberlain, we're not buying your claim, Mr. Biskind.

If your book had been about Ned Beatty that would have been a different thing entirely.
