Wired recently held a readers poll for the sexiest geeks of 2009. Obviously, Olivia Munn got mad love from the nerd contingent. While no one is disputing Munn's physical attributes, we assert that she is a mere poseur -- a popular kid in geek's clothing, if you will. And it seems that, as a matter of fact, some of you will. Matt agrees with us: "Olivia Munn doesn't count as a geek just because she's on a technology TV show."
"Master04Chief" pointed out a hot geek we left off our alternative-to-Wired's poll: "I prefer Chobot from IGN." (That would be Jessica Chobot, IGN writer/host and licker of PSPs, for all you noobs out there.)
ironphil took us to task for forgetting about a G4 TV regular (other than Munn): "I'm a bit dissapointed you missed Morgan Webb from X-Play." Sorry, we're too busy thinking about reading comics with Fresh Ink's Blair Butler.
But edtorious takes the Noble Prize for ignoring gamer chicks altogether and channeling his inner Kevin Arnold and voting for former "Wonder Years"-star/current math wiz Danica McKellar: "After all these years, I still got the hots for 'Winnie Cooper'!"
Agreed. Any girl that can move a guy to speak in wistful voice-over will always get our vote.

Does Olivia Munn know how to over-clock a processor? no, but she knows what that means.
She can talk the talk. Good enough.

isn't that exactly what makes one a poseur? not walking the walk?
don't get me wrong, I'm an olivia fan for sure, but I don't think she is as big of a geek/nerd/whatever is cool now that people make her out to be.

Oh, believe me if you watched her as regularly as I used to on Attack of the Show you would see for yourself how lacking in nerd cred she is. Also she lags way behind when it comes to any intelligent patter with Kevin Pereira on that show too. Anytime that any of these interactions were taking place it was the ff button on my tivo remote for them. Unfunny and not exactly what I'd call sharp either.

It's an act she does for the show. If you've followed her blog or paid attention to her interviews, she's much cannier and more plugged-in than she plays on AotS. Some people like that persona and some don't. As much as I resent the continued objectification of women in the nerdspace, I think she's hilarious.

Olivia Munn is just a hired model. Any geeky kid who thinks Munn is authentic also most likely believes the Hooter waitresses or that cute bartender actually wants to sleep with them.
Munn has never said anything remotely intelligent in the years she has been at G4, which is not surprising being that G4 is a network that dumped all their tech pundits and industry insiders and replaced them with hired models (Munn) and contest winners (Kevin Pereira). G4 = corporate pwned. RIP TechTV.
Munn is trash.
