Our already over-crowded and disgruntled city was the most popular destination for American tourists in 2009. Super-perky Walt Disney World fell from last year's first place spot to second, proving that misery really does love company.

We find it to be more annoying than comforting, but Mayor Bloomberg insists the 45.25 million visitors will help keep leisure and hospitality workers employed. However, we don't work in either of those fields and would be A-OK with fanny-pack-clad Westerners staying put.

In more positive news -- The number of International visitors dropped from 9.5 million in 2008 to just 8.6 million this year. Tourists from abroad may help our economy (they spend about five times more money than domestic tourists), but they also smell bad and make it impossible to have a pleasant experience at Balthazar.

The Asylum New York take? Let's have the city's tourism board, NYC & Co., take their annual $38 million budget and divide it up among the local residents. We can use the $3.80 toward a soda on our next trip to the Magic Kingdom.
