Fortunately, you've finally moved out of Mom and Dad's basement. Unfortunately, though, Mom isn't around to lay out your clothes anymore. A fashion blunder can spell disaster for the single guy looking for a date, or any guy trying to maintain a good image in the workplace. Fashion faux pas can take many forms. Below we've compiled some common pitfalls to avoid, so when they laugh at you, at least it won't be for your clothes.
8. Worrying too much about what your buddies will think
Do you really want to choose your clothes based on the opinions of a bunch of dudes? Women are attracted to risk-takers, and taking some fashion chances will speak to your self confidence. If your buddies give you a hard time now, you can lord it over them when you impress that special someone.
7. Not spending where it counts
Think of your wardrobe budget as a triage situation: Spend first on shoes (not crocs), then watches, then jackets, then shirts, then pants.
6. Wearing a dark dress shirt with a suit
Unless you can pull off black on black, (hint: you can't) this should never be done.
5. Wearing dirty clothes
Women are like Sherlock Holmes when it comes to stains -- they notice that small ketchup blot from a month ago that you think is practically invisible. And they will assume you are unclean with all of the negative associations that entails. Same for bosses and clients.
4. Wearing clothes that are too large
We realize that you may think you're camouflaging a beer belly with that XXL sweatshirt. Regardless of body type, wearing clothes that are a size too large is unflattering.

3. Mistaking expensive clothes for good-looking clothesWearing a T-shirt with GUCCI all over it does not say, "I'm rich." It screams that you're trying too hard and look ridiculous.
2. Trying to be too fashion-forward.
Unless you're a literary agent or rock star, wearing a suit with plaid shorts (or, worse, leather pants) looks ridiculous.
1. Not dressing to the occasion
Work is work, play is play. And anything you wear to the gym is off-limits for either situation.

about twice in my life someone has said "that's out", well people wear what other people wear which makes them followers. how often have we told our kids, "be a leader", "we need leaders etc". I wear what I like and it's always clean.
when I was a kid I'd wear jeans/pants with holes in the knees. people would laugh at me and make remarks, young and old. sometime later wearing jeans/pants with holes became the in thing. people still wear them with holes in the knees, pockets, etc.
I used to wear my sweat shirts inside out and people would say "do you know your shirt is inside out"? many years later it became the "in thing".
so I'd like to think I was ahead of my time, lol.

It's a good list, but you failed to mention sandals and songs. For some reason guys still wear socks with their sandals and think its perfectly fine, but instead it's just tackey. If your feet are to unattractive to wear sandals without socks then skip the sandals.

I invented the 'Infinity Tie' for men and I get drop dead looks when I 'wear' it. If you really want to know what it's like, many responses might drag it out of me. Otherwise, after the Golden Globes this evening, Im exhausted.

Overfilling your front pockets. Yech. PLEASE don't put your car keys, cell phone, pda, your glasses, a handful of change, and your wallet into your front pockets. I had a teacher years ago, who somehow thought of his pockets as an endless storage facility. He was already pretty frumpy looking, but adding lumpy pockets to the whole picture just made him look like a clown. Avoid the bulging pockets guys, please! If there's a bunch of stuff you must have with you, get a nice backpack in which you can stash your gadgets - then put it over one shoulder.

Some of this is pretty good. I'm a blue collar guy, so most of the time it's carhartts and steel-toes. But on the odd occasions when I need to clean up, it's pinstripes and skinny ties. A vest is always classy, and those guys that are talking about watches being a must are right-wear one. As they say, the devil is in the details, and a man that can nail the details is the one that walks away with the promotion. This applies to shoes, pants, shirts and the small stuff like french cuffs and tie tacks. Just because a guy spends his working hours sweating and welding doesn't mean it's not cool to clean up and look like a dandy every once in awhile.

1.Avoid any and all shirts that have any kind of skull, Maltese cross or eagle print on them. No foil or metallic stuff on a shirt either.
2. Check your hands and nails-dirty nails=yuck
3. Look at the back of your shoes as well as the front-it may need polished there too.
4. Ties should not extend too far below beltline (at pee level) or not far enough(around navel).
5.Use a tie clip or atie bar-they are classy.
6. Shave the hair on the back of your neck-too many guys worry about the front and look like a Neanderthal in the back.
7. Have your girlfriend search for and remove any beginnings of ear hair!
8. No jeans that are distressed or have holes/cuts/tears or other fake damage to them!
