We all know it's dangerous to be the only one in a section cheering for the away team. But did you know you could be arrested for it? San Diego police officers arrested a New York Jets fan during this Sunday's playoff game at San Diego's stadium. As you can see in the video (after the jump), the fan (and his lady friend) was clearly posing no threat to his nearby seatmates when the police began to go after him. In fact, Chargers fans even come to his aid to tell police the man in question had done nothing wrong. An officer responds saying the Jets fan was resisting arrest. Um, wouldn't you?
The fans and the arrestee were outraged. We smell a lawsuit coming! And the happy advancement of the Jets in the playoffs. Take that, angry policemen.

Why should he have to tone it down??? This is FOOTBALL people!!! This guy paid a nice chunk of change to be there, he was not being over the top he was excited!!! This is an obvious abuse of authority! I applaud the other fans who took up for the guy. Any football fan who has traveled to a game and rooted for the opposing team knows they have done the same thing if not worse! Shame on those cops!

Unbelievable. Don't they tell you what law has been broken? Why couldn't they respond to the crowd asking what he did wrong? Especially, when they were saying he did nothing wrong! Can anyone say POLICE STATE?

Well, lets see, I guess this gave the NRA a shot in the arm. What else is more frightening than police arresting someone for no apparent reason? The right to bare arms inorder to keep from allowing the govt. to control the people came to mind immediately.
For anyone who does not understand why the man fought, wouldn't you be frightened enough to atleast drag your feet? Why didn't the police have a conversation first? Give him a warning, let him know what the concerns are, then if he continues to be a problem, arrest him. Isn't that an elementary manner in which to handle a situation like this one? I am shocked and dismayed!!

i think yall are missing the point here...the cops looked like they asked the man politley to come with them because he was being a jackass and the cops were trying to save him from any harm. but the man freaked out and started resisting...there is such thing as inciting a riot but not arrestable unless you resist...and what did he do...he resisted, i bet if he would have went with them they would have moved him to another part of the stadium.

If over a football game a riot could be excited, Then this country or those who participate, in cheering there teams on should re-evaluate What is truly a cause & what is not. This man & his female partner clearly did no wrong. Are there rules of ingagement for cheering a football team in a stadium ? (No) All the cops involved even on the seen, should be arrested for violation of this man's civil rights !!! An for kidnaping the last fan at the end of this segment or tape. Concerning Officer simply no liking what the fan had to say. Abuses his authority (Mexican cop) then kidnaps the fan.
WHAT THE HELL !!!

Does this mean if you are a visiting fan you have to sit mute after they took your money for a ticket. Imagine all those fans all over the US sitting MUM. What happened to having fun and free speach? I hope those officers pay big time for their stupidity, maybe send them to Jet's Stadium and make them stand in the field and say I AM SORRY!!!

I know this took this guy by surprise because he was looking an officer right in the eye and asking are you really arresting me? I know it is hard when you are in shock but the smart thing to do was to openly and loudly ask why you were being arrested. Repeat that several times. I will not risist arrest! Why am I being arrested?! Loudly several times and do not allow yourself to be arrested until you here a clear a definitive answer to that question. There are literally a hundred witnesses in this case and it was being videotaped. This man will sue and he will win just from the video. The Police unless they have some serious crime here that we do not know about are going to lose big time. There is no resisting arrest if you are not being arrested. They have to have a charge to arrest him and if there is no charge there is no resisting an arrest plain an simple. From the video it does not apppear that he has broken any laws. Now he can be removed from the stadium if they feel he is a threat to himself or anyone else. The video does not show that either.

He will not win. What you don't see in the video is when the cops initially got there. There was a point where this escalated because the cops don't travel in packs of six at the stadium. There is only that many once it gets beyond a certain point and they need back-up. And as it does appear in the video, they were arresting him for being drunk in public. Then with him resisting arrest. There are multiple employees presence to write incident reports on what happened. Therefore, since they will be able to justify initial arrest and with him resisting, the San Diego Police will win. :)
