sek may not be a household name yet, but one of his recent forecasts threatens to change all that. In a clip that has over 300,000 YouTube hits, Kosek fluctuates between flat-lining and freaking out while discussing the impending snowfall in Baltimore. The clip is full of high-volume, highly quotable potential catchphrases, but our favorite is "Tertiary problem (yeah I've been reading the dictionary) blowing and drifting AAAHHHH!"
Some cynics have suggested that Kosek's wintry diatribe was pure stagecraft, rather than a true spleen-venting. We wanted to get inside the mind of the Mad Meteorologist, so we reached out to Kosek to find out if the tirade was the real deal.
Keep reading to read what Kosek had to say and watch his now-famous forecast.
We asked Kosek what the reaction has been, so far, to the clip.
"Good and bad," he says. "You have some people who love it, others absolutely hate it. Some people don't think you should screw around at all -- they need to get a life! Others take precious time out of their daily routines and have nothing but kind words to say, and to them, I can't thank enough. That's why I keep doing it each and every day. If I didn't, I'd probably be in my grave right now."
Cautiously, we asked if the forecast was a put-on, or an actual flip-out.
"Oh, no put-on at all. I flipped out about it. Snow looks pretty when it's on the ground, but when you gotta go out and shovel it, you've gotta stare at it for days, weeks, months on end, it gets old." He then lapsed into a partial flashback, repeating his entreaty for a ticket to New Orleans.
Kosek concedes that part of it is entertainment, but when he sees that much snow coming, he's "not a happy camper."
Given a choice, we'll take Kosek's amped-up delivery on special occasions like this. Really, if a weatherman can't get excited about 14-22 inches of snow, what's the point?

It's not a heck of a lot warmer down south these days. Hawaii might be a good choice right about now.

This man is nuts. I grew up in Buffalo NY and they have 4 maybe 5 months a year of good weather. They will have snow sometimes up till the end of march. Every hear of the Blizzard of 77, it crippled the entire western NY area. No electricty, couldn't drive unless it was an emergency, schools closed for almost 3 weeks. And when it was over we got the Ice Storm of 78 that came right after the snowstorm. If you want to drive and know what your doing go to Buffalo in the winter and learn, then you'll know how to handle any driving conditons.
I left that place as soon as it was humanly possible and will never return, I hate snow so much that I wouldn't care if I ever saw it again besides on a Movie Screen. You don't know nothing about snow till you live north.

I think the most mirthful aspect (yeah, I read a dictionary too!)of his rant is based on personal anguish. He seems to long for a relocation away from such weather. What better way to submit an application for a new job than on air?

That was funny! I live in Northern Maine and 14-22 inches of snow wouldn't phase us at all!

For those of you who misunderstood, that was not the 14-22" over the 30". That was the forecast for the storm that gave us the 30" last Friday into Saturday. We are now getting the 20" above that.
While it may be routine for some cities it causes a problem when it is not routine. If we were used to dealing with it and expecting it all the time and budgeted for it's removal, it would be no big deal. The biggest thing isn't about getting that much snow, it is that the snow removal crews are not used to having to move this much snow and the state doesn't possess the equipment that other areas that routinely get this much snow have. My street hasn't been plowed since before the first 30" and now we are getting another 20" on top of that. Thank God I have 4 wheel drive, but hardly anyone else in my neighborhood can even try to get out.
