It seems there was a little something called the Super Bowl this past Sunday, and it featured the Indianapolis Colts vs. the New Orleans Saints. Before this Super Bowl turned into a Who Dat getting crunked bacchanal on Bourbon Street, a lot of people thought the Colts would destroy the Saints because they had Peyton Manning. In fact, Peyton Manning elicited such glowing, giddy, and hyperbolic articles, that we actually thought he might levitate during the pregame ceremonies.
Then Peyton successfully impersonated Neil O'Donnell circa Super Bowl XXX. Surprised? You shouldn't be. If you look at his career in more detail, you'll see why we should have seen this coming.
Keep reading for a timeline of Peyton's epic FAIL.
In high school, Peyton lost 5 games! Everything on the Internet about Peyton during his high school days mentions how many touchdowns he threw (92) and how many yards he threw for (7,207). Yes, he went 34-5, but how many titles did he win? How many high school championships did Peyton Manning win? It's not possible to find the answer anywhere on the World Wide Web, which is remarkable in its own right. (Repeated calls to Isidore Newman High School went unanswered.)
We can answer how many titles Peyton won at Tennessee: zero. The closest he got was his sophomore season when Tennessee finished third in the nation. He even lost to Florida three years in a row. He ended his career against Nebraska in the Orange Bowl. Typical of Manning in big games, Tennessee lost 42-17.
He was drafted first in the NFL draft by the Indianapolis Colts in 1998 and again his teams won. He kept getting his team close, but not quite there (sound familiar?). People started to notice, but then came Super Bowl XLI. The Colts finally won and his place in history was secure. Peyton even clinched the Super Bowl MVP trophy with a staggering QB rating of 81.8. He was provided a gimme game by the football Gods and barely clinched a victory (witness the Bears leading 14-6 after one quarter).
Now, after this Super Bowl XLIV debacle, people are pointing fingers at everyone but him.
We get it -- he's a good ol' boy with an uncanny knack for making 3,000 adjustments at the line of scrimmage and leading his offense by himself. But those playoff losses on his résumé are starting to pile up. Peyton has no one to blame but himself for this Super Bowl loss, and all the earlier losses throughout the years.
Face it, he's just not a winner.

Spencer Lund, you are a complete and utter idiot! Peyton didn't play his best last week, but his normally superb receivers dropped two passes that would have meant touchdowns. A lot of variables go into winning or losing a football game; to blame that loss on Peyton alone is idiotic. You should be a millionth as good as what you do as Peyton Manning is at his job... A -hole!

i agree i guess that all the people that are sayin this dont know that manning already won a superbowl. i guess they just started watching football a month ago. it doesnt make any sense. look at what happened to the patriots when they went the whole season undefeated and then lost to a wild card team. at least manning lost to a very good team in the saints.

Possibly the dumbest article of all time. The Colts go to the playoffs every year, and Peyton already won a superbowl oh and didn't the Colts have 7 or 8 4th quarter comebacks this year. Yea man your right he's not a winner, well done.

I am a Saint's fan, bleed black & gold. I just think this article sucks. Payton Manning is a great QB. However, the Saints outplayed the Colts, bottom line, they were the better team. Amazing how before the Superbowl, Manning was the media darling becaue they thought the Cotls were going to win. My how they shift those loyalites so fast. Who Dat!!! In NOLA, we knew, no one was going to win but the Saints!!!

Lund you are a fool. did you even watch that game, the Superbowl. Superbowl 44? dude, New Orleans put a new face on defense. Defense is for scoring when the offense is taking a break. They are going to have to invent a new group of statistics for defensive points.

What an idiot! What the heck are you talking about? How many games did he WIN to get to the Super Bowl? I am pretty sure you have to WIN playoff games. I am pretty sure they did WIN a lot of games this year. I am pretty sure he did WIN a previous Super Bowl. Peyton is a GREAT quartback.

Harpie I totally agree! Spencer Lund is an idiot for writing an article like this. Watch out Spence Peyton will find out and you'll be on his sh*t list big time. He is an awesome quarterback! I am a true Giant's fan but Peyton is so impressive on the field and such a true sportsman of the game. I saw another article where someone slammed him for not congratulating Drew Brees come on he couldn't even get to Drew after the game which is why he went to the locker room! I have a lot of respect for Peyton as a player and human being!

The Saints won because of an onside kick, which completely nullified them recieving in the first quarter, the same could be said about Drew Brees, how many championships has he won...oh wait...one...the same as Peyton, I guess he's a loser too right?

I think a lot of football fans & fans of every sport fail to realize that the superbowl and any other major events are just another game. The # 1 thing i hate about sports is people or critics try to judge a player on how many titles he or she has won and hasnt won. Superbowl victories shouldnt measure a players greatness as an athlete.Me personally i think that the NFL's Superbowl games really cant determine whos the best b/c there's only 1 game to be played. Now if the NFL was like the NBA (best out of 7) then you could determine whos the best team & who cant win the big game. But jugding peyton manning saying hes a failure is down right wrong. Peyton's wide outs also dropped critical passes in the superbowl, so its not all peytons fault.Hell who knows the NFL may have told peyton to throw the game b/c everyone was expecting the Colt's to win and the NFL is a business of entertainment who knows what goes on behind closed doors. I CANT BELIEVE PEOPLE REALLY THOUGHT THE NFL WOULD LET THE SUPERBOWL BE A BIG BLOWOUT ON EITHER SIDE! R U SERIOUS?ITS ALL ABOUT CAPITAL AND RATINGS PEOPLE. ITS BUSINESS 1ST & FOOTBALL 2ND.

Spencer Lund, you are most knowledgable! Peyton didn't play his best last week because his normally superb receivers dropped two passes that would have meant touchdowns and some of the running backs got tackled that would have meant touchdowns too, also the onside kick played a part too and our Cheerlearers didn't get enough air time either! A lot of variables go into winning or losing a football game; to blame that loss on Peyton alone is fair and usually correct. You are a millionth as good as what you do as Peyton Manning is at his job... A whole lot of people agree with what you wrote.

Although he has more regular season MVP's than any QB ,still, I know PEYTON MANNING's big game performances don't come close to Joe Montana's. Joe not only won superbowls with/ or without Jerry Rice(didn't matter), but he is 4 WINS IN FOUR SUPERBOWLS.
Furthermore, even though the leader is on the field is the QB, and "Peyton's receivers dropped a touchdown", Joe Montana has performed an individual accomplishment that none of these QB's including PEYTON and Tom Brady will ever claim: in the BIGGEST STAGE with the most desperate opposition, Joe Montana did not throw one SINGlE interception throughout FOUR SUPERBOWLS.
