Laying eyes on a woman with an optimal hips-to-waist ratio affects a man's brain similarly to how drinking alcohol or taking drugs does.

Researchers hooked up 14 guys in their 20s to a brain scanner while having them look at before and after pictures of women who had undergone cosmetic surgery to redistribute some of the weight from their hips into their buttocks. The scans revealed that the post-operation nude shots of the female's backsides were more likely to activate the part in the man's brain that also reacts to drugs and alcohol.

"These findings could help further our understanding of pornography addiction and related disorders," said Steven Platek, an evolutionary cognitive neuroscientist who worked on the study.
