Required reading from the week in books.

Author Seth Grahame-Smith ("Pride and Prejudice and Zombies") returns to period-piece / horror mash-ups with the wonderfully titled "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter." While we're a little sick of most of this sort of geek-pandering nonsense, "P&P&Z" was surprisingly funny and accurate to its source material. And Honest Abe in any incarnation never fails to be hilarious.

Also in stores:
-- Jeff Garlin ("Curb Your Enthusiasm") attempts to reduce both his carbon footprint and his actual fat guy footprint in "My Footprint: Carrying the Weight of the World." Garlin's lifestyle changes aside, the biggest revelation in the book are the sections about what a colossal jerk Jerry Seinfeld is. Dude would eat high-calorie foods in front of Garlin on the "Curb" set just to taunt him. Between this book, and "The Marriage Ref," it is now clear that Seinfeld must be stopped.
-- DC Comics continues to reprint the hilarious late-'80s Justice League comics with 'Justice League International Vol. 4." Seriously, this was the series' finest era. Martian Manhunter is addicted to cookies. Batman knocks out Green Lantern Guy Gardner just for mouthing off. It's been downhill from there ever since.
-- Sam Lipsyte's satirical novel "The Ask" tackles heady subjects like middle age, failure and the Iraq War with a darkly comedic punch. Think of it as your literary vegetables after the sugar of Lincoln stabbing vampires.
