A funny thing happened after Apple introduced the iPad to do battle with the Kindle: The price of eBooks went up. Which is exactly what you'd expect with increased competition, right? For law-abiding netizens, The New York Times has an analysis of why the $13 eBook makes a lot of sense.
Costs are lower because publishers don't have to pay for printing or physical storage, but they still have to pay for author royalties, typesetting and, of course, marketing, since just like a bookshelf at a store, it doesn't do anyone any good if readers haven't heard about the book.
Of course, this doesn't matter because you're probably just going to use your iPad to watch porn.
