Although more and more couples have been living together without being married, this hasn't necessarily come at the expense of marriage.Researchers, who analyzed the 2002 National Survey of Federal Growth, found that over half of American women between the ages of 15 and 44 have, at one point, lived in sin with a partner (you know, without being hitched). However, within three years, the glorified roommate proffered a ring in 51 percent of these arrangements; 65 percent of the time a question was popped before year five.
Having a child increases the likelihood that a cohabiting couple will eventually walk down the aisle. So does being of a similar background, with regard to education level and race. These findings distinguish the United States from Europe, where the majority of men and women living together never marry.
