Gone are the days of waiting anxiously for your waitress to (finally) reappear to your table to bring you another cold brew."Our tap system allows you to regulate and pour your own beer," says Luke Stoioff, a partner of Twilight Traffic Control, the parent company who owns Bull & Bear, Stone Lotus and others.
Keep reading for more on this wondrous trend.
The concept was born from the idea that being able to serve yourself instead of relying on others would be so much more convenient.
"We always thought, Wouldn't it be nice if we had a tap of beer at the table to drink and it wouldn't get warm and you could just help yourself whenever you wanted to," says Stoioff. "This way, you don't pay for pitchers you don't drink, the beer stays cold, and you can refill whenever you feel like it."
"Every table with a built-in tap (there are five inside the bar) also has a screen that tracks how many ounces you have left," he says. "Each person is allotted 24 ounces of beer (roughly two pints) to start, and your waitress swipes a card at the beginning that activates the system so you can start self-serving."

that's cute...!..except for the "crooked police" who are out there waiting for their DUI,bonus..!..between them and MADD...the party is OVER..!..MADD has been quietly and arbitrarily, enacting, incorrect laws to arrest/jail,innocent people all over america...!...and they are now using tax dollars to do it..!..if you enjoy alcoholic drinks and you know somebody who was wrongly accused of a DUI,then got to; motorists(dot)org ; to see what's really been going on..!...between ,MADD and THE (NHTSA),and the ROGUE COPS,in this country...a lot of decent people are being wrongfully arrested/jailed...the breath machines that go in the cars are innacurate too, they were never designed for human use....and the breath testers that the cops use are also innacurate..!..;motorists(dot)org has all of the information...we have to get rid of these terrorists before they bring back prohibition..!..thank you..!

drunk people are not innocent they are breaking the law.
As for cooked police, they are doing their jobs and keeping people safe from drunks. If people drink then they need to have a designated driver or take a cab. This is for their own safety as well. Only people that drink to excess have to worry about crooked police. Get real man and get a designated driver.

thats really nice, ACCEPT for the fact that this companies greed is costing Chicago badly needed jobs. People complain about the current lack of jobs these days but think nothing of frequenting these establishments that are eliminating people in favor of automation, we are our own worst enemy, help maintain jobs, not to mention the human interaction, by boycotting such places. demand service from real people, it may be a job that a family member, friend or you may need badly someday, think about it.........

BTW, did you... umm... miss the part where they still have a Waitress come over to your table to regulate the patrons consumption? Plus, which is worse: This bar hiring a few less waitresses due to these tap-tables or the whole bar going out of business (and all it's staff losing their jobs) because they can't both provide requisite service and pay all the workers that service would require. I mean, seriously, your argument is just retarded. Plus, if this trend picks up it could open up a whole new field of on-call tap engineers and repairmen to help maintain these things and fix any problems.

Part of the reason bars are hurting is the blanket smoking ban enacted in some states. I agree that non-smokers should have the opportunity to go out for a beer and not be bothered by smoke but bar owners should make the decision as to whether or no they will allow patrons to smoke just as non-smokers can make the decision to patronize the establishment or not. If a bar owner feels that there is an advantage to being a smoke free bar, let it be his choice.

It looks like buy backs are a thing of the past. This is also a way of controlling this age old tradition of bartenders buying back a drink for customers. From a waitresses point of view I would think this would mean a substantial drop in tips. Why would you tip on self-service.

I'm sorry, but the reason I go out to begin with is, to be served. If I wanted to serve myself I would stay home. That's the problem now, there is no service in the service industry, buffet, self-serve gas, now serve yourself beer. I guess the next time I go out for breakfast I'll have to cook my own eggs.

I don't drink at all and when we go out with others i am the designated driver. I am not sure what you are saying about I don't understand what I read. Maybe you should quit drinking for a little while and get yourself sober for a change.

So much depends on what is considered legally drunk or DUI !!! Your weight, did you eat before drinking, etc, i dont think one machine fits all is the answer.
