Every study on the relationship between porn and sex crimes concludes that when the availability of pornography increases, the rate of sex crimes either stays static or decreases. For example, in the United States, there has been a consistent decline in forcible rape over the last two decades. At the same time, porn has flooded the marketplace. Research from Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Japan, China, Poland, Finland and the Czech Republic shows a similar correlation.
It is true that just about all sex offenders in societies with liberal pornography laws have previously viewed porn. But so has just about all of the non-criminal males in those societies.
In fact, when comparing rapists to non-rapists in U.S. prisons, the big difference in terms of pornography viewership is that the rapists are more likely than the rest of the general prison population to have been punished for looking at porn as a youngster.
So, yes, your favorite porn starlet really is a hero.

Your story and statistics are full of crap. Forcable rape on women has declined because women are more aware and protective of the warning signals then ever before. Child rape and child pornography and murder has been on the increase since America has gotton complaciant about the dangers of porn addiction. The rapists and porn perverts are aware that they can't get real woman andf have real relationships with the porn stas there watching so they attack children who can't defend themselves. WHOEVER WROTE THIS ARTICLE IS A MISINFORMED IRRESPONSIBLE IDIOT.

Hey, sorry, your tirade is baseless. Its true, sexual abuse is higher in areas where pornography and "marital aids" are in less availability. These are also areas where rape is rampant and discrimination against women are institutionalized. AKA most of Africa and the Arab World. Sorry kiddo but maybe you should vent your PMS on some other website if you're looking to troll.

I can't agree or disagree, but I know that in a world where your own sexuality is compromised by laws and morals based on ancient thinking is never going to get us closer to a peaceful society. Rape is never right, but neither is biggotry!

You used the word "there" when you should have used the word "they're." I suspect you are not very intelligent. Therefore I suspect your argument is not very well informed.

Yeah! Now we'll have a scientific reason to give to wife/parents/girlfriend/clergyman/boss/librarian/ex-bestfriend/shocked people at starbucks/pissed off guy at newsstand/confused and ashamed dog. It's so we don't rape anyone! We're doing this for your own protection. You're welcome. Now please, hand me that sock.

well then, we should allow pedo's to watch child porn with that rationale.
This way the rate of baby rapes will go down.

Hasn't anyone heard that correlation does not necessarily mean causation? Just because both the rate of forcible rape (I would argue that all rape is "forcible", whether by means of physical force or the misuse of ones authority and age) dropped and the prevalence of pornography increased over a period of 20 years does not mean they had ANYTHING to do with each other.
How about the author take a deeper look into the lives of those convicted rapists? Look at the type of porn they prefer, and their other behaviors as well. Look at the likely history of violent acts that probably extends well before their first viewing of porn.
I'm not trying to say that porn is bad...but claiming that access to whatever porn these potential criminals is looking for is a preventative measure is just flat out ignorance.

Its always amazing to me how easy it is to post something emotional and ridiculous in these forums and watch who comes out to defend it. You can't be serious. Your actually commenting and defending porn, rape, rape of children and child pornography. Losers! What a bunch of gulable idiots. There are no real statistics out on any of this junk including the baseless statistics the writer is spewing. The "wide spread" viewing of porn in America and elsewhere is realativley new. Any real studies take 20 years(or more) by a highly creditable institution. To make true analytical and statistical assesments on porn would be a complete waste of any statistions time. They wouldn't waste the grant money. Put down the porn and get an education people. Porn, stripping and sex addiction are boring and for old people.

look, i normally dont comment on this stuff but i have to agree, there is not scientific data to support it. attacking each other does nothing. it doesnt matter if a person uses good grammar or spelling if the data isnt there to support it. child rape and child porn are independent of this because it stems from an abusive cycle. as a male that is a feminist and one that watches porn, it is completely two different areas. i dont believe there is anything wrong watching porn, but if its violent rape porn that gets you off, there might be a problem. rape is never justified but i agree with the person that says there needs to be extensive study done on the matter. i believe porn helps to relive sexual tension that would lead to overly agressive people or abused people to rape, but thats a opinion biased on emotion, not scientific fact. WE NEED MORE INFORMATION.

While I can't defend the article, Margeret Mead noted that in societies where public nudity is the norm, not only rape but schizophrenia is unknown. The fact that sex and nudity are treated as shameful creates universal sexual neuroses and violent behavior. Pornography is just as dehumanizing, as it plays into the idea of sex as forbidden and dirty. Nonetheless, I'll take soft-core porn over promiscuity any day... gotta get my rocks off somehow.

I agree that this is not a very good article. but the points it makes are valid, as corroborated by other posters on here like Shaman Sam. not to mention that when you look at the psychology of famous serial killers with sexual elements to their crimes, such as ted bundy or ed gein, you find that in either their childhood or adolescent life they were exposed to sexual behavior and nudity in a negative, traumatizing way or were punished for committing sexual acts such as masturbation.
now, Kim. are you seriously comparing the act of masturbating to porn to the act of forcing sexual contact on another person and to pedophilia? yes, there is child pornography floating around on the internet. and it absolutely shouldn't exist. but that is precisely why it is illegal to view or manufacture such things. but to say that porn and masturbation are just as bad as raping someone, child or adult, (let alone to say that porn causes people to commit rape) is absolutely pure bullshit that only a moron could create.
lastly, your claim that "porn, stripping and sex addiction are boring and for old people" is pure opinionated drivel. 1. sex addiction is a very real thing and you may very well know someone who suffers from it. 2. stripping appeals to all types. there are young and old people, men and women at strip clubs. regardless as to whether that establishment intentionally caters to either the male or female demographic. 3. everybody watches porn at one point or another. I guarantee you that the pope himself has seen porn, and enjoyed it, at least once in his life. unless you live in a colony made up purely of eunuchs, you know someone who has watched pornography and enjoyed it, if you yourself have not done so already.

gwarf, What...? Who said anything about masterbation? Unless your the Pope how can you guaruntee that he has watched porn and enjoyed it? If it isn't rape, then what do you think they are doing to those children when their making this crap for you entertainment? And trust me their isn't a little girl in the world that says "when I grow up I want to hump a metal pole naked for a living so men and women can get off and ejaculate". Your getting off on someone elses hardship. That makes it non-defensable but you uneducated morons have found illogical ways to try and defend it. Duh is the only one in this forum that has made a statement that does justice to the story. Give me a break with all your crap about scientific evaluationa nd statistical comparisons. Its nudity to get your rocks off like SS said don't make it into something its not. It is not saving lives like the author suggest. The perve that killed Jessica Lunsford admitted that he read stacks of porn before he raped, buried that girl alive and killed her. No matter how you justify your urges to look at porn or masterbate its your own weakness that gives into the compultion to reach for it. Believe it or not their are millions of people who have never had to look at porn to get off. Despite the exploding marketing hype to sell crap. But it is in no way shape or form "helping to save lives" thats the joke folks its Asylum not Harvard review.

ok, I'm sorry, but you really need to check your grammar and did you even read what I said? I never said that children grow up wanting to be strippers. but that doesn't mean that some people don't enjoy the job. I mean, can you tell me that every stripper in the world hates their job? not to mention that while I may not know the pope personally, he wasn't always a member of the clergy. and I certainly do understand the mind of an adolescent boy. hitler youth or not, I'm sure him and his friends found a way to get a hold of a dirty magazine at some point.
you seem to love the idea that your opinions are smarter than facts, and you ignore whatever anyone else says if it happens to disagree with you. you call them uneducated morons when your opinionated statements are questioned, not to mention when you cant even type my name right, use the right form of "there" or spell guarantee or masturbate correctly you're the one looking like the uneducated moron. some of us may have found illogical ways to defend it, but on the same side, you've found a completely baseless way to attack it. there are plenty of scientific, psychological, and sociological evaluations into pornography, masturbation, and sexual behavior along with plenty of statistics. and while the author is making quite an inductive leap to imply this causation, he does have 3 legitimate sources of information. as for your claim of the jessica lunsford case, I reiterate ed gein. he may have only killed two people that we know of, but he exhumed several corpses and made trophies of the body parts all around his house. and he never watched porn. in fact, he was scalded with hot water by his mother when he was a young boy because he was masturbating.
as for the claim that porn "is in no way shape or form 'helping to save lives" just go and ask the people within the porn industry. and I don't just mean the ones in front of the camera. not to mention, the porn industry is an absolutely huge economic provider. people buy porn. that money goes to companies who produce it, they pay their taxes and so do their paid employees. there is plenty of psychological, sociological, scientific and economic research out there that would essentially sink any argument that you can come up with to say that porn causes rape and is ruining lives.

Just a quick comment about not wanting to be a stripper. Not many people want to grow up and work at McDonalds either. Being a stipper is a choice. A choice way to get a nice paycheck.
