Since St. Patrick's Day has long been not so much a holiday as a day when people will literally skip work so they can go out and start drinking as soon as bars are legally allowed to serve alcohol, it stands to reason that drunken shenanigans are a big concern.

In an effort to curb the more lethal ones, many cities offer free cab rides for those too wasted to get home on their own. Here's a rundown so you can be prepared.

New York
The law firm of Martin, Harding and Mazzotti will pick up the tab for you on a number of holidays, including St. Patty's Day.

Washington, D.C. and surrounding areas
You have to be over 21 and show proof of age. You underage drinkers have to get home on your own.

Baltimore
The Tipsy Taxi program is here to cart you home from 4 p.m.–4 a.m., in case you need a half-day bender to get your drinking done.

Springfield, Ill.
Sticking it to Baltimore, Springfield is giving you rides from 5 to 5. If you're going home drunk at 5 a.m., you got the job done.

Colorado Springs, Colo.
You need to name drop the McDivitt law firm to get this ride, and it's not guaranteed. But you can hope. Or keep drinking.

Terre Haute, Ind.
Also sponsored by a law firm, contrary to the belief lawyers would prefer you to get wasted and get in an accident so you can hire them.

San Francisco
Yep, the lawyers are at it again. This time they'll get you home in Alameda, Oakland and Berkeley, too. That's a lot of Irish.

San Diego
If you have a SHAMRock wrist band from the party in the Gaslamp Quarter, you get a free ride home. Plus you can make tons of awful shamrock puns.

Albuquerque, N.M.
Just make sure you call about two hours in advance, and you're golden.

Lincoln, Neb.
Proof that there is something to do in Nebraska: drink! And now you can get home safely afterward. Well, 100 of you can.
