Most of us probably know at least one person who can think up just short of any excuse to party, but it's not often you meet people so committed to going all out over something like a power pole.

Bob Hubbert and his wife bought an empty lot in Los Lunas, N.M. and couldn't begin building their new home until they had power, which tends to be lacking out in vacant desert lots. After two months of waiting, a power pole was installed and the Hubberts decided to mark the occasion in style.

A party was held to honor the power pole, and like all good power-pole parties there was a skydiver, a mariachi singer, a parade and a Mexican feast. And then, naturally, the pole was blessed by a priest and a shaman, just to cover all spiritual bases.
