Some of the world's top bartenders will face off in New Zealand this weekend for the top prize in 42Below's 2010 Cocktail World Cup. These master mixologists were handpicked by judges at regional events, where each prepared and presented boozy goodness (aka crafted cocktails) with equal parts precision and panache. So does this mean that head-to-head bartending qualifies as sport? Asylum's Anthony Layser attended the U.S. finals to answer that question while plying his liver with numerous free cocktails.

Reminds me of my days tending bar in London at the Star & Garter in Putney, and the Orange Brewery in Pimlico. I'd give anything to re-live those fabulous days!

a lot of people used to joke about being a bartender, but if history has taught us anything it would be that bartenders can make an awful big salary plus tips. in the bad times when unemployment is running rampart over the country a bartender always has a job. we americans go to taverns whether it is on the corner or in the plaza hotel we turn to a drink or two for happy occasions like the birth of a grandchild a bonus or whatever. we also turn to a drink in bad times like getting let go or the death in the family. one thing is constant we will drink for any reason. the high priced bars in big cities across the USA can pull down more a year than the majority of the people he serves. and that's no joke

I think it's kinda cool - I bartend at 3 different bars in 2 cities and I love my job. We always have a story and no two days at work are alike.
While not the Sistine Chapel we do create works of art (and they're quite tasty too!)
