This wonderful snowball fight between Princess Leia and Lara Croft got us wondering who'd win if these two ladies actually squared off (or curved off, rather) in real life. Then our stunted pea brains wandered and we found ourselves pondering who is truly the toughest woman in pop-culture history. Before we knew it, we had a sort of March Madness for gladiatrices on our hands ... and in our geeky hearts. Because there's just something awesome about a woman who could kill you, but doesn't.
Read on to see which pop-culture babe is the baddest ever, and please let us know if we've left anyone out. Xena, anyone?

So far, so vicious. But let's see what happens when the pairings get a bit more unpredictable.

We're down the final two fights now, composed of our heartiest heroines.

And it all comes down to this: a clay goddess versus a steely mortal.

Haha, yeah right. Wonder Woman loses all strength the moment you tie her with rope. Figures the weakest example of a woman was chosen.

At least it was fun to read but shouldn't a real woman character have won?
Wonder Woman has no merits, it is too easy to be powerful and skilful on paper and ink.
Buffy, Selene, Alice or the Bride should have won; specially the Bride since she had no powers and no clones to switch her mind to when defeated. Besides, she killed fracking Bill.

And yet it's more real when it's scripted and airs on television or film, right? Buffy, Selene, Alice, etc, are no more real than Wonder Woman is. I hate to tell you, there was no Bill that was killed. Those were just images on celluloid.

You really need to get out of the basement, dude.

@pnut166: Unfortunately, I live in a flat so there's no basement where I could release all my nerdiest dreams and be surrounded by a reality of unrealized fantasies.
@Diana: Thanks for telling me that none of these women were real. I didn't know that because the other day we found a magical bat in our flat that transformed into a Rumanian immigrant so we called the Buffy-Van Hellsing company to exterminate it. Crappy company, everything they did was a hoax... by the way, there was no bat either, it was the concierge.

This result is wrong on so many many levels. Ripley is the ultimate. She killed a freakin alien QUEEN!!! The end. Goodnight motherfcukers.

Sorry, but if you limited it to real (in the fictional sense) non-animated (pure fantasy) battles, it would be Buffy vs Kara Thrace - and it'd be a very brutal fight (my money would be on Buffy, even if Kara certainly swaggers like she could kick her ass). Personally, I'd prefer they not fight and just be on the same team [it'd be pretty invincible].

This is accurate, in fact DC comics heroes would most likely win in any category since they are usually so over the top powerful. The only exception being Batman, and on the other side an exception to Phoenix and Galactus, who had DC level power.

Of course wonder woman would win.
Let's not forget she is a warrior, without the superhuman strength, flight and whatnot, she would still be able to beat each and every woman there.
So all the back talk is just pointless drabble.

Maxima ( wannabe wife to Superman ) and Kara ( Superman's Kryptonian cousin ) would beat all of them.
However, H2H with each other it would be too close to call.

Ripley is not a warrior, she should have been eliminated in the first round. She was able to avoid getting killed and drive a forklift to push the Queen out an airlock. Wonder Woman is a good choice, not the best to my mind thanks to my personal feelings about Linda Carter (I went to High School with her)My personal favorite would be the Bride. That Bitch is pure Bad Ass.

if you're taking Ripley from the 4th movie, i can see how she would do that well. otherwise, no chance.
but...
ultimately, 2 words: DARK PHOENIX.

This list is incredibly racist. Is this 1950? Where is Foxy Brown? Where is Shu Lien from Crouching Tiger? Can there be one non-white female heroine represented? This list sets female action heroes back 50 years. Shame on you.
