Tomorrow, April 3, 2010, the iPad hits Apple retail stores across the country.

At 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 30, Greg Packer unfolded his lawn chair and plopped down outside the Apple store on 5th Avenue. Alone, he sat and waited for the iPad to arrive.

We caught up with Greg today to find five or six more Mac-heads behind him in what now could rightfully be called a line, making the man who has now devoted four days of his life to waiting for the iPad to look slightly less crazy.

The retiree didn't seem bothered by the early start, saying he spent the alone time "people watching." In the summer of 2007, Greg was also the first in line for the release of the iPhone. For that release, Greg also arrived the Tuesday before, one of a group of about 10 to line up that early.

The media has dubbed Greg the "iLoser" but here at Asylum we gave him a different name: iChampion.

Upon its announcement back in late January, many shameless Apple fanboys were skeptical of the new product and somewhat let down by all the hype surrounding a relatively average piece of hardware. But it just goes to show you that some fans are still fully devoted to the brand they love.
