Poor Teddy Roosevelt can't buy a victory: With three 2010 National Presidents Races in the books
, he remains winless.
Just before opening day, Asylum chronicled the off-season training efforts
of the Washington Nationals' lovable loser Teddy Roosevelt, who competes in the Presidents Race every home game against three other foam-headed stand-ins for dead presidents. Teddy has never won the race.
Despite a rigorous off-season training regimen and the support of a raucous fan base, Teddy failed to break through in the Nationals' series against the Philadelphia Phillies last week.
In the first race of the new season, reports the unofficial Presidents Race blogger
, "[Teddy] took a close lead around the final turn, but appeared to pull up lame after high-fiving a fan in the stands."
