79 percent of Americans believe not filing all of your income taxes is morally wrong. In a 2006 survey from the Pew Research Center, only married people having an affair drew more moral condemnation than those who hide earnings from the IRS. Only 5 percent of Americans think not being straight with the tax man is morally acceptable; 14 percent don't think of it as a moral issue at all.
Other controversial moral behaviors that Americans rated lower than income tax evasion include abortion (52 percent), smoking marijuana (50 percent) and homosexual sex (50 percent).
This all suggests that the tabloids and gossip rags have really dropped the ball by not paying more attention to celebrity tax scandals.
