An L.A. man says he was shocked to discover that an odd noise which had woken him up was in fact caused by a sea lion on the roof of his second-story apartment.

Thinking the sounds could have been a burglar trying to break in, Mike Kai says he crept up the stairs of his home to investigate the noises which woke him at 6.30 a.m. But when he got to the top, there lounging among his deck-chairs was a baby sea lion which had somehow found its way onto his roof.

Mike quickly ran back down stairs to grab his camera, before returning to the roof where he called animal control services.

"The seal climbs up on the railing and looks like he's gonna jump!" wrote Mike on his blog. "We try to talk him down but he looks like he's just showing off. I think, maybe this guy can be my friend? Maybe he can live in my bathtub like the 1994 classic movie 'Andre.'"

The adventurous sea lion was eventually taken to the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach where it was checked before being released.

It's still not known exactly how the pup dubbed Fiddler (as in "on the roof") ended up in the odd location, but experts say it is amazing that they can climb at all, because of the way their front flippers work.
