Brooklyn Bridge nearly named after QueensAn unthinkable tragedy was narrowly avoided Friday when the Department of Transportation changed the name of the paint to be used on the Brooklyn Bridge from Queensborough Tan to Brooklyn Bridge Tan.

How could such a disaster nearly happen? Officials from the DOT say that the misnomer was due to a clerical error and that they are pleased to be returning the bridge to its "original Brooklyn Bridge Tan." Of course, the bridge was originally painted a color called Rawlins Red, but what's the difference? In a few years that would probably look tan anyway, right?

The new color was approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission as part of a four-year, $500-million rehab of the bridge, during which time the lane closings will cause people grow to hate the bridge so much that they won't care if they paint it "Staten Island Turd" as long as it gets finished.
