From superstars to super-scrubs, athletes command a pretty penny for their services and probably make more money than they're actually worth. But pro sports teams need to put fans in the seats, so they're willing to compensate their players handily. It's one of the reasons Philadelphia Phillies first basemen Ryan Howard just signed a staggering five-year, $125 million contract extension last week. Unfortunately, the plan doesn't always work. In fact, sometimes paying an athlete too much money can actually set a franchise back by putting a strain on its salary cap and preventing the squad from adding additional pieces. When will we as consumers realize that we are the problem. The economy sucks, jobless rates are at an all time high and yet we shell out $100+ to see a spoting event.WE place these so called "gods" on a pedestal and they make millions of dollars only to fall from grace.They place themselves above the law, and we still idolize them.Why shoud they make that type of money imagine what they would they do if only made $100,000 a year? What would they do if they had a mortgage, kids, and financial obiligations like 99% of the american public.No player is worth $125,000,000.WAKE UP AMERICA....
