It's a sad, sad world we're living in. A world where a skating rink has to close because somebody fell down. Seriously. Falling down while roller-skating apparently equals lawsuit these days.Lola Staar's Dreamland Roller Rink in Coney Island won't be reopening this summer because Taconic Investment Partners has decided not to renew the lease -- the liability insurance became too expensive after a patron sued the joint for taking a spill there last year. Way to ruin it for everyone else, Mr. Litigious. Despite the fact that the Roller Rink lease has not been renewed, owner Dianna Carlin has nothing but nice things to say about Taconic, who let her use the old Child's Restaurant building on the boardwalk rent-free for two summers.
Now if you go to Coney Island you're going to have to try to enjoy the beach. And by "beach," we mean "weird guys who want to sell you the chance to touch their pet snakes."
