People are more likely to turn their ringers off and pocket their mobile phones when they see that an incoming call is from a close friend or family member.Researchers at the University of Salford found that nine out of 10 people admit to deliberately ignoring certain cell phone calls. The scientists further discovered that calls from work colleagues or strangers are almost always answered. The reason: It usually involves more time and effort to speak to someone you are close to.
The most common excuse for ignoring calls from a friend or family member is: "I didn't hear it ring," followed by "I was driving" and "I couldn't find my phone."
A surprising 3 percent of respondents even claimed to use variations of the "I was busy in the bedroom" excuse.
We want to warn you to use that one with caution: If you are a single guy who doesn't have a reputation for being a Lothario, your friends and family will take that as the ultimate brush-off.
