Some 55 years since he first drawled and squinted his way in front of a camera, the San Francisco native is still capable of causing a stir as a director and an actor -- garnering widespread critical acclaim for his last big screen appearance in his 2008 "Gran Torino." But we felt it was only fair to celebrate the great man in his stylistic pomp.

We're not talking about the threads of the wizened, but still dapper, driving force behind such worthy studies of aging masculinity as "Torino" and "Million Dollar Baby," nor the '80s tough guy somehow maintaining his mystique while playing alongside a bird-flipping orangutan. Not as the rumpled suited hard bastard of "Dirty Harry" nor the grizzled, poncho-clad sharp-shooter of his stellar series of 1960s spaghetti westerns.

No today we salute handsome young Clint in an off-duty moment during his name-making stint as Rowdy Yates in CBS's classic cowboy serial "Rawhide." Clean-cut, well-dressed and even then, the proud owner of the meanest narrow-eyed stare in showbiz.
