Happy Birthday, Clint! Or should that be [takes long, slow drag on cigar ... grits teeth] "Happy Birthday... Punk"? Eastwood, almost certainly the coolest mayor of Carmel, California, turns the grand old age of 80 on Monday. Some 55 years since he first drawled and squinted his way in front of a camera, the San Francisco native is still capable of causing a stir as a director and an actor -- garnering widespread critical acclaim for his last big screen appearance in his 2008 "Gran Torino." But we felt it was only fair to celebrate the great man in his stylistic pomp.
We're not talking about the threads of the wizened, but still dapper, driving force behind such worthy studies of aging masculinity as "Torino" and "Million Dollar Baby," nor the '80s tough guy somehow maintaining his mystique while playing alongside a bird-flipping orangutan. Not as the rumpled suited hard bastard of "Dirty Harry" nor the grizzled, poncho-clad sharp-shooter of his stellar series of 1960s spaghetti westerns.
No today we salute handsome young Clint in an off-duty moment during his name-making stint as Rowdy Yates in CBS's classic cowboy serial "Rawhide." Clean-cut, well-dressed and even then, the proud owner of the meanest narrow-eyed stare in showbiz.
Lacoste Classic Pique Polo
Of all the iconic stitched polo shirt signifiers, which is your favorite? René Lacoste's crocodile? Fred Perry's wreath? Retro Fox's leaping fox? Le Tigre's, um, tigre? Whichever your particular poison -- and they're all great brands -- Lacoste has a strong claim to be the original and, therefore, the best. Wear the classic, plain color design, select a snug size to avoid looking like a preppy douche and never, ever pop the collar. ($79.50 from NeimanMarcus.com)
Unruly Heir Hooded Cardigan
It's not really the right season for a toasty lambswool cardigan, like Clint's. How about this quirky, lightweight cream hooded cardie from hip, Upper-West-Side-meets-hip-hop label Unruly Heir? ($140 from BlueAndCream.com)
American Crew Grooming Cream for High Hold (with High Sheen)
On-screen in this '60s, the only thing teasing Clint's hair was sweat and dirt from the arid plains of central Spain. Off-screen, however, he favored a more stylishly coiffed approach. ($15 from Drugstore.com)
J. Lindeberg Trevon AMF Chic Pant ($106 from Zappos.com)
