Our tenth of 12 candidates for America's Next Top Beer ...Lagunitas IPA
Lagunitas Brewing Co. -- Petaluma, Calif.
Can you find Petaluma on a map? Neither can we, but this immensely enjoyable IPA may soon have you planning a pilgrimage to the Lagunitas Brewing Co.
A bright, citrusy hops blast -- is that grapefruit? -- followed by a rich malt finish, this IPA is rich enough to satisfy, and drinkable enough to leave you wanting more ... like, right now.
This first-class brew has helped Lagunitas spread out from its Northern California base into pockets of the Midwest, Northeast and South, and that growth may continue. The Beer Sommelier tells us that Lagunitas "has that necessary combination of quality products, big investment capital and marketing, to become a true national success story." Oh, if only our nation could be so lucky.
The final word:
The Beer Sommelier: "Value"
Joe Sixpack: "Tangy"
Marty Wombacher: "Wonderful"

I'm happy to see you doing this. I'd like to see your opinions on the Double Arrogant Bastard. The beer and the name seem like a fitting option for Asylum.
+1 for beer of the month!

IPA is a very good brew, but Hairy Eyeball is definitely my favorite of the Lagunitas beers when available.

Great to see some coverage of these brews, Lagunitas is great stuff, a textbook floral/hoppy IPA. I have to say though, I think the revolution is coming via craft beer in a can, namely "Dales Pale Ale". I love that stuff, i can take it so many places that my glass craft bottles cant go! (the beach, the boat, the park, etc). There is no metallic taste and anyone who says otherwise just can't handle the hops.

Any Lagunitas brew is top-shelf. Right now, their "Hairy Eyeball" is in limited release. Dark brown, but not harsh. And their flagship, in my mind and belly, is the Maximus. Props to Lagunitas.

LAGUNITAS HAS MUCH MORE THAN IPA AND SHOULD BE ON TOP IN PALE ALE, STOUT, & PILSNER. THEY HAVE A WIDE VARIETY OF OUTSTANDING BEERS AND ALES CREATED BY DEDICATED PRACTITIONERS OF THE BREWING ARTS, IN MANY CATEGORIES NOT MATCHED BY ANY OF THE OTHER CANDIDATES. CONSIDERING ALSO THE BEER SANCTUARY & ITS LIVE ENTERTAINMENT, DEVOUT BEER LOVERS AND THE ATTENTIVE STAFF OF BEER DISPENSING YEOMAN AND MAIDENS, WHO CAN SAY NAY TO LAGANITAS?

Lagunitas should be the pick far and away. You could call me a homer since I'm in NorCal, but I'm from the East Coast and I've had most of the list's offerings plus plenty of other brews big and small. Laggies has an awesome list (WTF and Capp Stout...unreal) from top to just-below-the-top (nothing they make deserves to be called the bottom). And the IPA is the piece de resistance, always enjoyable, with their signature hoppiness but tempered enough for less adventurous palates. Make Lagunitas the Next Top Beer and cement the reputation they already deserve.

A well crafted IPA that offers a good balance of Flavor, Aroma, and bitterness is delightful. IMHO IPA's have become a vessel for bitterness, and block the true flavor of the hops to prevail. IPA's have become the Merlot of the beer world.

Am I the only one who thinks Fat Tire is terribly overrated?
