British Indy 500 driver Mike Conway will be out for at least three months recovering from leg and back injuries sustained in a horrific crash which he was extremely lucky to survive. Conway underwent surgery to repair fractures to his lower left leg and is expected to undergo another surgical procedure later this week.
The 26-year-old also suffered a compression fracture of one of his thoracic vertebrae and will be fitted with a back brace for three months.
The crash occurred after Conway hit Ryan Hunter-Reay, launching him, airborne into a fence. His car all but disappeared around him.
Conway was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital. Fellow Briton Dario Franchitti won the race.
