Sleigh BellsThe screeching guitars on "Treats," the debut album from Brooklyn duo Sleigh Bells, could suggest a shift away from the alt-chamber-folk sound of fellow NYC buzz bands Grizzly Bear and Dirty Projectors. Girl-group vocals, synths and surf-rock guitar licks combine to form a sound that is like The Go! Team with a heavy sprinkling of Dick Dale.

-- What's up, brah?? Just chillaxin' with the new Jack Johnson album, "To the Sea," on my Zune. Does that guy know how to keep it mellow, or what? He wears sandals everywhere, like some sort of Gen-Y Jimmy Buffett. And the best part is, since "To the Sea" sounds nearly identical to every other Jack Johnson album, it will be perfect background music to my BBQs, hammock-lounging and hacky sack matches. Ah, bummer, my Zune broke. Better go listen to the entire album right now over on Spinner.
-- The Melvins showcase their well-honed brand of metal and humor by covering The Who's "My Generation" on their latest release, "Bride Screamed Murder." When is "My Generation" going to be used for a "CSI" theme? It would be perfect for the animated spin-off "CSI: Junior Investigators Unit."
