Our happy hour fact to amaze your drinking buddies with.

The faces of brown-eyed white men appear more dominant when compared to their light-eyed counterparts -- but the source of their dominance strangely isn't their eyes.

Czech researchers at Charles University in Prague had people rate both blue- and brown-eyed men and women on their perceived dominance -- a factor females often use to select mates. The scientists then digitally swapped the eye colors in the photos and had a different group of volunteers perform the same task.

In both cases, the men who originally had brown eyes rated as more dominant. (Eye color had no effect on the perceived dominance of feminine faces.) The brown-eyed men tended to have broader chins and mouths -- which would make them appear more intimidating -- but the researchers aren't quite sure why facial structure would be so closely associated with eye color.

One theory is that having brown eyes is linked to more testosterone production; another is that males with "baby blues" are treated like children for a longer period of time (and this somehow affects the development of their facial features).

No matter what color your eyes are, you can always use them to appear more dominant by doing a Clint Eastwood–like squint in most situations.
