That's it. You can now officially add speedboat racing to the list of sports which should probably never be tried.

That's because a British speedboat champion has survived a terrifying 87-mph crash which threw her co-driver 10 feet in the air and into the path of other racing boats.

Shelley Jory-Leigh and Patrick Huybreghts had been competing in the Malta Grand Prix of the Sea when their boat hit an unusually large wave.

The jolt catapulted Huybreghts into the air and shook Jory-Leigh around like a toy in the mouth of an angry dog, repeatedly bashing her against the boat's hull. After her head stopped spinning, the 40-year-old instantly radioed for help as she was worried for her pal, who was bobbing around unconscious in the water ... and in the way of the other speedboats.

Luckily, the pair were quickly rescued and taken to a local hospital where they were treated for bruising but were both y otherwise uninjured.

Speaking of the crash Jory-Leigh said: "We are so very lucky we are still both in one piece." Keep reading to see the dramatic footage.
