Granted, many people from New Jersey have probably told somebody they're from New York, and we're sure their reasons are valid -- sparing their dignity, and uh ... that's probably it. But one couple actually managed to make headlines with their trickery.Jill Schifter and Anthony Maulella decided their daughter deserved better than the education New Jersey could provide, but rather than move to the city, they used the address of a friend who lives here so they wouldn't have to pay out-of-state tuition or NYC rent.
For five years, they had Verizon and Con Ed bills put in their name and used them as proof of residency so their daughter could attend LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.
Now the city wants to be reimbursed for the tuition, which is roughly $20,000. So, hopefully that fancy "Fame" education pays off and their kid starts making some money soon.

New York sure is home of the greedy! I don't see the problem with a Parent wanting a better education for their child. Now I can only imagine how many other parents have been doing this I doubt they were the first to think of this.
