In our bid to boycott the World Cup for a few hours, we've found the next best thing: robot soccer!

While our boys were losing to Ghana, China, which didn't qualify for the real thing, was cruising to victory in the humanoid version of the beautiful game.

At an event called the International Humanoid Robot Olympic Games, Chinese, South Korean and American teams went head-to-head, with two mechanical players on each side, in addition to a keeper.

A computer-science student named Guo Weichao won the tournament, which took place at Harbin Institute of Technology in China, after his robot scored the most goals in a penalty shootout.

"What makes us better than the human Chinese team," he told ITN, "are two things: On one hand, it is physical ability. When humans are playing a match, their physical performance will weaken and they will become really exhausted. But our robots are the best among electricity-powered options, they will never get tired during a match
