Sure, "Star Wars" is the most obsessed-over movie of all time. There are, however, still some fascinating bits of trivia that have escaped the attention of all but the most hardcore fans. Being the brainchild of notoriously egocentric George Lucas, the series is chock-full of hidden gems of knowledge and bits of Lucas's personal life.
Here are 19 fascinating facts about the Star Wars universe that aren't all that well known.

Fact 20: And the name "Chewbacca" is taken from the sound King Louie makes in the "Jungle Book" when he jump-ropes over his own arms and utters three time: "chew-bacca, chew-bacca, chew-baca."

I'm a mild Star Wars fan, but is there something to Darth Vader that makes you name him Darth Rader in these facts?

OK is it 19 things or 15 things -- I am confused!
Also ewoks and wookie are the same word -- with the e moved to the front or back == lack of imagination George?

Yeah, who the hell is Darth Rader? And who didn't know that Star Wars was/is the biggest merchandising flick in history? It actually created the modern era of ubiquitous toy/movie tie ins. Darth Rader? Seriously?

Not only is this all pretty well known info (who didn't know Mark Hamill was in an accident?). It's pretty much taken straight from the bonus features of the box set.
And what's with the Darth Rader typo?
George Lucas used the description of a hamburger to help artist Ralph Mcquarrie understand his idea for the Falcon.
Better rare facts:
The movie was originally called The Star Wars and used a blue triangle with Luke standing in front of an orange moon for an icon
Anthony Daniels is the only actor to be in all six movies. He originally was only going to be the man in the suit and another person was intended to be the voice
Carrie Fisher had to lose 15lbs to get the roll. She was not allowed to wear a bra under he slave bikini as "there is no underwear in space" according to Lucas. She was taped down during filming, and it was an on set joke about who would get to remove her tape at the end of the shoot.

The Voice actor originally thought to do C-3PO told George that Daniels' voice was a better fit overall. You can thank Mel Blanc for keeping Daniels as C-3PO in his entirety.

episode 6 was originally named; Revenge of the Jedi. It was changed to Return of the Jedi, because the Jedi do not do "revenge"

I grew up with Star Wars since the movie was released in 1977. I have every action
figure, playset, vehicle, comics, costumes, etc. I even attend sci fi expos in the D/FW
area.
I did some research years ago before the prequel, and learned that George Lucas was writing the script with some scenes but no plot. Then, he went to see Akira Kurosorwa's two movies "Hidden Fortress" and "Seven Samurai", and from there he took some ideas like the two bumbling peasants for C-3PO and R2-D2 as well as a samurai(origianlly Luke Skywalker, then changed it to Obi-Wan Kenobi) and a rebel princess who was in hidding with the gold.
Also Han Solo was supposed to be a green skin alien with gills with a Humphrey Bogart like style.
The biggest problem was when George wrote the script during "American Graffitti", he wrote a background story like, "Where Darth Vader came from, how the kids evolved, his wife, how Ben related to all that, how the Emperor came to power." and he took the script to every studio in Hollywood and everyone rejected it. Years later the director was later secretly relieved. The last thing he didn't want was to hand his project to the wrong people and handed it to Alan Ladd Jr at 20th Century Fox.
The other problem was, the script was to big(200 pages) and it would have cost $100 million to film it. So Lucas took the first act of the script, and make that into a movie and save the rest for sequals.
When it came to merchandicing, the studios at Fox wouldn't allow it because it wouldn't sell. So Lucas decided to use his remaining money and have different companys like Kenner to produce toys and other things to help promote the movie. The merchandise sold $2.5 Million dollars and doubles every year.

I thought Sebastian Shaw was introduced in the CGI version of Return of the Jedi, at the end, because Lucas decided to have a younger Annakin ghost. Maybe someone who would look like what Lucas wanted Annakin to be like in Revenge of the Sith.
The theatrical release of Return of the Jedi had an unmasked David Prowse at the end, when Ghost Yoda, Obi-Wan and Annakin appeared before Luke on Endor. Lucas getting rid of Prowse's appearance at the end of Return of the Jedi bothered me because it was the one time we got to see the man behind the mask.

I believe you have your actors mixed up. Prowse _was_ the body. Shaw was always the unmasked Vader in "Return of the Jedi" and Ghost Anikan at the end of the original releases. When they remastered it with the CGI, they removed Shaw at the end and replaced him with Hayden Christiansen(sp?), because of Episodes 2 & 3.
